Gov. Greg Abbott originally called for the removal of rainbow crosswalks and other symbols of pride from public roads across Texas on Oct. 8, saying they pose safety concerns and misuse taxpayer dollars.
In a statement, Abbott said any city that does not comply within 30 days could risk the “withholding or denial of state and federal road funding and suspension of agreements with TxDOT.”
Almost a month later, the City of Dallas has submitted a request for an exception from compliance with the standards outlined in the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) October letter.
"The City of Dallas installs standard crosswalks in line with the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (TMUTCD) and partners with private entities for non-standard pavement markings, which are fully paid for by private taxpayers," the City of Dallas said in a statement. "There is no evidence these decorative crosswalks are any less safe than standard crosswalks, and some national research has shown these crosswalks are in fact safer."

Oh, please!
I’ve been expecting someone to try this angle.
If they get an exception, you can bet several other exceptions will immediately be requested for the same reason. They will have found a loophole to exploit.
Knowing squishy-spined Abbott, I can see him caving to this demand.
I, for one, am more than happy to drive over “Pride roadway Displays”.
It’s easier than throwing shoes at them....
They arrested people for painting over them during the Biden reign of terror.
‘F’ em.
If Lubbock had to remove Buddy Holly glasses painted on the crosswalks, the Dallas sodomy rainbows have to go too!
It’s horrifying to imagine stepping on the brown stripe.
Not buying the pride holiness and everythign gay as sacred.
They’ve gone too gfar a long time ago. Get back in the bedroom and be quiet.
The final straw was going after kids, educating kids, mutilation of kids, adopting kids and abusing kids.
You think this is evil and your gay, police your own.
Because any straight person says what I wrote your sh*t gets all pushed in and start screaming homophobia, the made up word.
The rainbow flag is selective sexual tolerance at best. At worst it’s divisive pride. God hates pride.
The DoT needs to codify this and put it to an end. PS. no exceptions.
THAT’S SO GAY! 😊😊
I thought only Austin was liberal?
It burns me that one single taxpayer cent has been spent on this crap to alter crosswalks.
If that’s true, then any bright, non-political crosswalk would do.
Sounds queer....
They must not be allowed. If they are allowed, then any one can make a painted crosswalk. Why do queers get special rights? They can not even pro-create yet are incredibly over-sexed.
People need to stand up and call a spade a spade if people want to see change.
You know what they say about Texas...Steers and Queers.
What an eyesore. As the paint wears out, it will look worse.
Dallas is obviously not suffering from any crime or poverty. All rainbows and unicorns since that is their focus.
My thoughts exactly.
