A Legendary Era Comes to a Close as the Iconic Line Begins a Multi-Year Modernization Journey.
Walther Arms, Inc. today [11/19/2025] announces the formal multi-year pause of production for its legendary PPK®, PPK/S®, and PP® legacy handgun lines—marking the end of an era for some of the most iconic firearms in history.
For nearly a century, the Walther PP-series pistols have stood as global symbols of craftsmanship, elegance, and reliability. Immortalized in popular culture and revered by firearm enthusiasts worldwide, these handguns have set the standard for timeless design and performance. Today, Walther honors that legacy while clearing the path for the next evolution.
As part of Walther’s long-term product vision, the PPK®, PPK/S®, and PP® will now enter a multi-year reengineering and modernization program. This initiative aims to enhance performance, integrate advanced manufacturing technologies, and elevate the user experience—all while preserving the iconic look, feel, and spirit that have defined these pistols for generations.
“This is not the end of the PPK story,” said Tyler Weigel, VP Sales of Walther Arms, “It’s the beginning of a new chapter. Our goal is to honor the heritage of these iconic firearms by bringing them into the future without compromising what made them classics.”
A Call to Collectors and Enthusiasts
With all remaining inventory of the current-generation PPK®, PPK/S®, and PP® models now fully sold into the market, this moment marks the close of one historic chapter and the anticipation of another. Consumers, collectors, and lifelong admirers of the iconic series are encouraged to visit their local authorized Walther dealer to explore any available units currently in the marketplace and secure a piece of firearms history before they disappear from shelves.

Fix the bite, cam the barrel.
Option 2 has been done in the H&K P7, but my guess is will be tricky to keep the dimensions similar.
I have a pre S&W PPK (no/s) that I’ve been carrying for 25 years. I’ve never had a problem with it.
The P7 setup, including the gas port does seem like the way to go about it.
As I understand the P7 got hot at the port area but that looks like it was because the gas had nowhere to go directly except back out the same port. With an intake port and exhaust port, it might work for a 9mm Parabellum without building up too much heat. \
Such a change would explain a full suspension of manufacturing during the reengineering process.
I had a PDP. Took it to the range twice and sold it. Constantly jammed. Heavy recoil. The only thing I liked about it was the laser.
