Unfortunately, Protestantism played a role. Not the Church of England kind, the more fundamentalist type behind American Evangelical Christianity. Is very anti-art, more concerned about the end of the world - than about celebrating the beauty (natural or manmade) in this one, demonizing art as idolatry, and artists as pagan, etc…
Evangelical fundamentalists: more concerned about the end of the world than creating* beauty in this one.
Bull.
That doesn’t really hold water as the older buildings of any sort (churches, businesses, etc.) are more decorative in architecture than modern buildings.
Even fast food restaurants used to be more decorative.
The Catholic Church sure gets slammed for having beautiful buildings
And the first thing you think of is attacking another religion.
It reveals an ugliness inside of you.
Good point. The puritanical strain has always been anti-art, anti-beauty for the sake of beauty.
