Edith and Francis Schaeffer considered themselves fundamentalist and worked at restoring a Christian view of art. I think this was in part driven by their friendship with Hans Rookmaaker.

You can find pictures of places of beauty around the world. Usually because you took the picture from just the right angle that cuts out all the ugliness.

But that poster has been bi+ching about the US for months on FR and I am tired of it.

No one is making her stay here.

We would all be happier if the person would just go to some other part of the world.

She should exit. Depart. Vamoose.

1) This is a thread about architectural beauty, not overall infrastructure.

2) Not all countries south of the border are third world and even those that are boast of economically thriving (and touristy) cities and pockets. Some places like Panama or San Miguel in Mexico boast of swaths of American retirees.

Mexico for example is a hell hole of a few rich and powerful and masses of ugliness, there is a reason that few people travel through and all around Mexico and instead tend to fly to an end point rather than just travel around by car enjoying all the Catholic beauty South of the border.

What kind of nonsense is that? Are you forbidden to talk about the principles of art and beauty because buildings don’t save? My God, you are lost on this one.

I’m neither Evangelical or Catholic, but I think CP is on track for raising the issue, at least.

I listened to Constitution 101 on Kahn Academy today. You should give the first two videos a try.

It is a marxist strategy.
Massive amount of information available about it.

One example:

You just have to look at post war architecture in Europe.

I would say they all look like prisons but if you look at prisons like Attica that were built in the 1920s you see that even there they built for beauty.

Water treatment facilities, Courthouse, factories, schools during that time were not only meant to be functional but also beautiful.

By the time the sixties rolled around the Anti-beauty we imported from Europe were in charge.

Private companies did manage to keep things fun and playful up through the 1990s when more and more companies were being taken over by conglomerates like Unilever.

And that was the end of beauty, fun and whimsy.

1) This is a thread about architectural beauty, not overall infrastructure.

You can not maintain architectural beauty without the overall infrastructure.

) Not all countries south of the border are third world and even those that are boast of economically thriving (and touristy) cities and pockets. Some places like Panama or San Miguel in Mexico boast of swaths of American retirees.

Yeah, they are.

Sure, they may have walled off tightly guarded enclaves of people but step outside and you find you are in a hell hole.

I worked at a Pizza Hut in 1980, and when we ran aout of sauce, that is exactly what the manager had me do, only at Finast instead of Winn-Dixie, as I was in Ct.

And the first thing you think of is attacking another religion.

It reveals an ugliness inside of you.

I’d say because we became soft on bad guys. Bring back public hanging for a variety of crimes. Hangings that are carried out a day after conviction.
