The following quote is the opening salvo from an article titled “The Largest Funder of Al-Shabaab Is the Minnesota Taxpayer,” by Ryan Thorpe and Christopher Rufo, both with the Manhattan Institute:
Minnesota is drowning in fraud. Billions in taxpayer dollars have been stolen during the administration of Governor Tim Walz alone. Democratic state officials, overseeing one of the most generous welfare regimes in the country, are asleep at the switch. And the media, duty-bound by progressive pieties, refuse to connect the dots. In many cases, the fraud has allegedly been perpetrated by members of Minnesota’s sizeable Somali community. Federal counterterrorism sources confirm that millions of dollars in stolen funds have been sent back to Somalia, where they ultimately landed in the hands of the terror group Al-Shabaab. As one confidential source put it: “The largest funder of Al-Shabaab is the Minnesota taxpayer.” [snip]
Our investigation shows what happens when a tribal mindset meets a bleeding-heart bureaucracy, when imported clan loyalties collide with a political class too timid to offend, and when accusations of racism are cynically deployed to shield criminal behavior. The six-page article chronicles a wide-ranging series of schemes to drain money from the intended recipients of state and federal programs. Fortunately, U.S. attorney Joseph Thompson has been filing indictments against several perpetrators of large-scale fraud.
For example, under Minnesota’s Early Intensive Developmental and Behavioral Intervention program, autism claims against Medicaid accelerated every year, from $3 million in 2018 to $399 million in 2023! Block grants. That would limit the total amount they can spend. Let them fight amongst themselves.
Minnesota had a state budget of $43 billion in 2020. By 2024 it was $66 billion. There is probably $3 billion in fraud already uncovered from Feeding Our Future, the autism clinics, and the housing fraud. If you get a $100 speeding ticket, did you ever think, “well there were also many others speeding and they didn’t get a ticket.” For every billion in discovered fraud there is 5 billion in undiscovered fraud.
The is exactly the same weak liberal mindset that allowed the Paki grooming rape gangs to make sex slaves of white girls in Britain. I bet there are grooming gangs ravaging MN as well. Gov Putz has a lot to answer for.

When States administrate welfare programs but the US pays the tab, there is every incentive for the States to dish out as much money as possible. It pumps up the States’ economies, some portion gets kicked back to politicians, and more State employees are employed to push the wheelbarrows of cash into recipient hands.
It is long past time for Congress LEGISLATE reform of entitlement” programs to close the loopholes and end systemic incentives for waste and fraud.
