College football winners and losers: Conference title game scenarios for every power conference
UK Daily Mail ^ | November 23, 2025 | Nick Bromberg

BYU made the Big 12's conference championship scenarios pretty straightforward on Saturday night.

A loss by the No. 11 Cougars at Cincinnati could have led to a four-way tie for second in the conference behind Texas Tech. Instead, just three teams remain alive for the conference title heading into the last weekend of the season as BYU won 26-14.

One of the biggest winners is BYU. With their win at Cincinnati, they now host UCF for a spot in the Big 12 title game. Currently, BYU is ranked 11th in the College Football Playoff standings. If they remain within the top 12, precedent suggests that a team with a playoff ranking will not be excluded for losing in the conference championship game. In this scenario, two Big 12 teams would make the playoff. The biggest loser in this scenario will be Miami.

The biggest loser is USC. Under Lincoln Riley, USC has a poor record, including against the spread, as road underdogs. They lived up to that reputation and were knocked out of playoff contention. Three Big Ten playoff bids appear to be locked: The Ohio State University, Indiana, and Oregon. The biggest hope for a fourth team is Michigan beating THE Ohio State University again.

As a UGA grad this is sweet:

“The Cavaliers and Mustangs are both in the ACC title game with wins thanks to Georgia Tech’s loss 🤣 to Pitt on Saturday night.”

Go Dawgs!

Good gawd that is so cruel to little brother Georgia Tech.
You team appears to be great position to secure the #5 spot hosting a cupcake Group of Five team. That is a better situation than making the SEC Championship game.

Wisconsin beat Illinois! A Thanksgiving miracle! That made my weekend. I can’t stand Brett Bielema. *SPIT*

“...Michigan beating THE Ohio State University again.”

Which would be 5 years in a row, this time at home too featuring the greatest rivalry of all-time, at least in college football. Many kids went to OSU just to beat U-M but never won including those going to the pros. ;-)

During the Love Oregon song a guy proposed to his girlfriend on the Big Screen. He then showed his “she said yes” T Shrit.
Great game.

Do you think it is possible that the players on underdog teams ( whole teams) could be reckless enough to bet on their team to lose in order to cover the losing spread?
From what I gather, a bet of $110 can return $100 plus the original bet of $110, if a team loses by the spread or more.
Lots of penalties if caught, but tempting if big consolidated bets of let’s say 110,000 bucks are made.
Hint: UCLA looks like a shoo-in winner to place a bet like that.

Yes that could happen although, besides the QB, it is a lot harder for a single player to impact the game than in basketball where there has been players throwing games for decades.

I like the new playoff system. It is no longer,
“Which two SEC teams will be in the national championship game?”
(southerners grumble)

I think it’s BS that a team can make the playoffs without having to play in a conference championship game.

I would propose doing away with the conference championship game, and just have the top four teams in the conference play a “play in” game.

The Conference #4 seed plays at the #1 seed and the #3 seed plays at the #2 seed. And the winners of the two games, go to the college football playoffs.

We play Georgia Tech this Friday. They call it “Good Od Fashion Hate”

I call it “Good Old Fashion Pity”

From 1965 - 2024 the record is:

Georgia wins: 45 (76%)
Georgia Tech wins: 14 (24%)

They are actually ok. But, we have to take a belt to that behind every year to keep those brainiacs humble.
