A Missouri judge who wore an Elvis Presley wig in his courtroom and played the singer’s music from his phone during court proceedings has agreed to a deal that would cut his career on the bench short.

Judge Matthew Thornhill in suburban St. Louis faces a six-month unpaid suspension under the deal he reached with a state board to avoid a disciplinary hearing. After the suspension, he would serve 18 more months on the bench before resigning from the St. Charles County Circuit Court.

I'm guessing he is a lib.

According to other sources he is a Republican who discussed politics from the bench.

Guess he just wanted to lighten the mood in those murder trials.

Actually, I know several judges, and only a handful are not nuts.

I don’t know what’s been going in law schools for the past two decades or longer…

…but cranking out activists and loons appears to be a big priority.

Well the AP didn’t mention his political leanings, so I surmised he is a liberal.

This ain’t nothin’. The Associate District judge in the next county over had to resign because??? Wait for it . . .. Wait . . . Yes, that noise the female bailiff had been hearing for several months was also heard by a litigant in a court hearing. It was a “penis pump” that the judge was using while on the bench. Unreal.
He had to be in his ‘60’s and he was generally gripey in court.

Reasonable, but in this case incorrect. He seems like a good guy to have for a judge, just an unforced error to speak politics from the bench when a Republican. Elvis was just noise.

Reprimand

Thornhill was reprimanded by the state supreme court for violating rules of professional conduct while working as an assistant county prosecutor in 2006. He allegedly asked a forgery defendant for a baseball autographed by former football star Terry Bradshaw. A disciplinary panel concluded that Thornhill never intended to accept the baseball, but he shouldn’t have continued to handle the case after the ball was offered.[5]

I’d rather get a jersey from Mean Joe Greene.

But federal judges who consistently violate separation of powers and legislate from the bench get to keep their jobs. This guy is a piker.
