“He said that bear ran so close to him, but it was going after somebody else,’”
…1st rule when being chased by a bear. Outrun the other guy.
Ping!....................
I hope they find that bear and turn him into a rug, of course. And, that every one affected heals up ok.
But, for those crazy for ladies who say, “I’d prefer the bear,” here’s a story.
If the male teacher got in the way of the bear to stop it from attacking children (he wasn't going to halt it), knowing that he would be mauled and probably killed, he's a hero.
If only some adult on the hike had a firearm to protect those children from that Grizzly. It seems like we are hearing about many more violent bear attacks all over, kind f like two years of covid gave them the opportunity to expand their territory and los fear of humans.
So our guide on an Alaska ATV tour a year and a half ago had a very nice chest rig with a .44 Mag stainless revolver with a 6” or 8” barrel and a set of reloads.
Probably not allowed on a school trip in Canuckistan.
The Canadians would look down on an American teacher who ended the problem with a gun. They’re too European for that.
Some friends & I visited Whistler in September. Lots of bears were coming near to town because of all the fires up there recently. Two grizzlies had been spotted & one was hanging out near a school. No one seemed worried about it. I guess they will when it decides to have a kid for lunch.
No mention of whether the bear was a Mama Bear, or whether the group thought they were not in bear country, or if group had open food. It is late in hibernation season ...maybe bear wanted one last snack.
Either way...ya gotta’ have adequate protection when in the backwoods, from animal and human predators. Ain’t Country Bear Jamboree out there.
Democrat bear.
Well, duh! No wonder! Did the Teacher and the Students make a Land Acknowledgement to the Grizzly Bears first??? If not, then they deserved to be mauled as colonial invaders!!!
Maybe the school should rethink the policy of hiking in grizzly areas with school children.
This is the direct result of ignorant government policy.
Yipes! Prayers up. This is that time of year when the grizzled b’ars are fattening up for a long winter’s nap - they’re very active and unpredictable. Not when I’d choose to lead a line of 10-year-olds through the sticks.
Gun free zone.
Free bear zone.
Adults should be ashamed of themselves forever.
