While the official attendance data still needs to be finalized and approved by the state, CMS officials told Queen City News that approximately 20,935 students missed school on Monday.

This makes up around 15 percent of the students enrolled in the school district, which is the 16th largest in the country.

A friend of mine made a midlife career change. I’ll him Joe. Joe took out some loans, then back to college to get a degree teaching math. He was hired at a Virginia middle school.

At the end of his first year, the principal called him in.
The conversation went something like this:

Principal: Joe, you’ve done a good job here. But we’re going to have to let you go.
Joe: Why???

Principal: Your student test scores are terrible.
Joe: But most of my students only speak Spanish, and I don’t speak Spanish. Plus their attendance was poor. It was very difficult to teach those students.

Principal: I know. It’s not your fault. But someone has to take the blame.

Joe quit the profession in disgust. Last I heard, he was working at U-Haul.

But there’s something else to consider. My math teacher friend was officially fired for incompetence, although his principal freely admitted that he was a good teacher. The district just needed a scapegoat for all the low-scoring illegals.

So now that’s on his record. First teaching job, fired for incompetence.

The subprime auto lending sector that caters to illegals is taking a hit as their borrowers stop paying, just about the time they cross the border.
