More than 100 officers injured as protesters attack police, breach barrier at Mexico's National Palace

Thousands of protesters swarmed Mexico City Saturday, attacking police officers and attempting to breach a security barrier around the National Palace, which houses the federal government's executive branch.

Plumes of tear gas filled the street as hooded protesters dragged riot police out of formation, beat them with hammers and chains and threw explosive devices at them, as they were stripped of their shields and communication radios.

The Secretariat of Citizen Security of Mexico City announced via social media that at least 60 police officers had minor injuries, and 40 officers were taken to hospitals.

Of the 40 officers hospitalized, 36 had contusions, cuts and minor injuries, and four are receiving specialized care for trauma and other injuries that are not life-threatening.

As of Saturday night, at least 20 people were detained, and 20 others were referred for administrative offenses.

The anti-government march, which became violent at Zocalo Square, was organized by members of Gen Z, those born between the late '90s and early 2010s.

Protesters told The Associated Press they were rallying against corruption and safety concerns.

The Secretariat of Citizen Security noted Mexico City Police only carried out containment work and did not repress protesters or respond to the provocations.

Arizbeth Garcia, a 43-year-old physician, told the outlet she was marching for increased security and additional funding for the public health system.

Recruit Chuckles. He'll be available very soon.

Thousands of “protesters” swarmed Mexico City Saturday, attacking police and attempting to breach a security barrier around the National Palace …. hooded “protesters” dragged riot police out of formation, beat them with hammers and chains and threw explosive devices at them, stripped of their shields and radios.

Earth to Fox News - this isn’t a descrption of a protest.

That’s a textbook Riot. Words mean things, if you write for a living, you oughtta know that already. Use the right words.

A damn shame. Some of the most beautiful resorts in the world, some beautiful scenery, history, etc. The country has everything going for it to become a major player in the world. Except for the corruption. I wouldn’t step one foot across the border into that cartel owned country. People go missing there never to be found, or found in pieces.

If these riots continue and get more serious to the point the government could fall, you have to wonder if the CIA is implementing color revolution on our Southern Border.

If it’s not the US implementing a color revolution, it could be the Russians or Chinese, looking to implement a Maduro Venezuelan style government on our border.

It will be interesting to watch to see if these protests continue and get more serious or were just a passing annoyance.

Dawn will be breaking in a few hours. It will be interesting to see if this is over or it intensifies.

Best case scenario it turns into Egypt with a military takeover. Worst case is commies from Central America create another Venezuela.

A conservative military takeover that brutally puts down the Cartels would be the best we can hope for in that benighted country.

Agreed, Miltie. Sheinbaum is widely seen as a tool of the cartels. Remember thirty-seven other candidates (yes, 37) were murdered in the course of the presidential campaign. This uprising has been brewing for a while. Her hastily-constructed metal barriers around the presidential palace have already been breached and the police have assumed “turtle” formation to try to save themselves. This is a perfect opportunity to crush the cartels, but it’ll necessarily be very violent. Word is they’ve been purchasing huge quantities of serious military hardware from China — shipping containers-full arriving at Mexico’s Pacific ports — paying in cash and bullion. Will the Monroe Doctrine come into play?

Sheinbaum is a failure.

Mexico's foremost problem is its criminal cartels. They appear to control Mexico and many in government are either complicit or lack the will and courage to do what needs to be done. Mexico could use another 'Mexican Revolution'. If our own nation continues to be dominated and controlled by corporatists, globalists, Christ-haters; if our nation gives more power to Muslims and Communists - similarly we will need another American Revolution or CWII.

“ is it that their norther border is closed that they now have to fix their own country?”

This sounds very likely. Another positive effect of the MAGA patriotism movement?

How many times have people protested about their government in Iran? This will fade away like there. An unarmed citizenry are easily subdued. In Mexico, the cartels have the power, money, and arms along with a large part of the governments in their pockets.

The Mexican government has a history of committing massacres. They did in 1968, a few months before they hosted the Summer Olympics.

I’ve held similar views for years.

Look at North America above the Rio Grande as a whole. Natural resources and opportunities abound to create wealth and prosperity. And it works quite well in the US and Canada.

Now look south of the Rio Grande. There are nearly the same natural resources and opportunities, yet there is much corruption everywhere, in particular Mexico. There was corruption in Mexico long before the cartels came into existence.

What is the common denominator creating this? Race or the predominant religion of Catholicism?
