Certain bitter plant compounds β the kind found naturally in cocoa, apples, berries and red wine β may temporarily boost memory by activating the brain's internal "alarm system," a new study suggests.
Researchers at the Shibaura Institute of Technology in Japan found that when mice consumed flavanols β plant-based compounds known for their antioxidant properties β their brains released a surge of noradrenaline, a chemical linked to alertness and focus.
Within an hour, the animals performed about 30% better on a memory test compared with untreated mice, according to the findings, which were published in October in the journal Current Research in Food Science.

Maybe you are, Dan. After all, you're posting on Free Republic and not on one of the nutcase woke websites. That says a lot!
I usually have a chunk of 90% chocolate after lunch - I never noticed being smarter - but maybe that’s because of the post-prandial naps...π€
I know I get smarter when I drink wine
I have found that a tablespoon (ordinary soup spoon) of honey right out of the jar has amazing physical and mental effects. For a prolonged duration, two is extremely effective
Honey is easily available and tastes better than bitter chocolate.
Then I guess all here are geniuses too.
Annnnd even if it didn't work, dark chocolate, and, try another piece.
Depends if you want to cross it or eat it.
I wouldn’t do that much, maybe half a crate. Every good thing in moderation.
I am as much in love with honey as I am with chocolate. Every morning a teaspoon in my coffee. Also, dip a bit of bitter chocolate in some honey, you might like it.
Turn on auto-correct and be done with it. By the way, before that meddling Daniel Webster came along, people could spell words any way they liked as long as they were phonetically meaningful. Adopted spellings are quite arbitrary, established by THE MAN and enforced by busy-body WOMEN. ;-D
Do Sweet Tarts count? π
A bit of bourbon definitely makes my memory clearer. I remember when I’ve had way too much like it was yesterday. Keeps me from overdoing it.
But today it’s even different. OMG! WTF! IMHO! etc., etc. Don’t even bother to spell out the words, but I’m kind of fond with WTF!
Maybe if they have dark chocolate and berries.
I melt marshmallows and chocolate chips together, add pecans, and eat them with a spoon. Does that count?
LOL. Me too. I’m living proof that dark chocolate will not stop your slide into senility and forgetfulness.
Ask and you will receive...
Chocolate is medicine. I get a lift whenever I eat it. But I prefer chocolate that’s not all dark. I should fill medicine capsules with dark cocoa and take several a day, but I’d rather eat the candy.
What brand of honey?
If itβs not dark chocolate just eat twice as much
