Tens of thousands of trees in the heart of the Amazon rainforest have been wiped out to prepare for a global summit on saving the environment.
Over the weekend, President Donald Trump slammed the creation of a multi-lane highway that tore straight through the ancient rainforest for this month’s COP30 climate summit.
Approximately 100,000 trees across eight miles have been removed to ferry 50,000 world leaders, climate change activists, journalists, and other high-profile guests to the conference in Belém, Brazil.
“They ripped the hell out of the Rainforest of Brazil to build a four-lane highway for Environmentalists to travel. It’s become a big scandal!” Trump posted on Truth Social on Sunday.
While the White House has not sent a formal delegation to the event, which began on Monday, several left-leaning US officials, including California Governor Gavin Newsom and New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, will be in Brazil. […]
Meanwhile, outrage over the bulldozing of the Amazon has been flooding into social media, with both climate advocates and skeptics pointing out the hypocrisy of cutting down thousands of trees for cars to reach a summit discussing deforestation.

Oh no. Months ago someone posted about this useless facility that required clearing a LOT of forest and 4or 6 lane highway to get there. 😠
We had to destroy the forest to save it.

It makes PERFECT sense. What in the way of natural resources is there that would be that profitable.
The climate summit is just a convenient excuse. It could have been held anywhere already developed.
That’s not the point.
All trees must matter from the climate change cultist’s POV. How else to balance out the atmospheric carbon dioxide, that is apart from global Tobin taxes?
Brazilian cars have no emission controls. In San Paulo and Rio the pollution is like LA in 1965. But the UN thinks they should worry about CO2 instead of carbon monoxide and unburnt hydrocarbons that are filthy and nauseating and sometimes poisonous.
Climate change policy has always been a phoney baloney power grab. True believers are all dupes.
The ruling class faction in question is intent on saving the planet -- for themselves.
This is like breaking hundreds of thousands of eggs in order to complain about a shortage of eggs.

Couldn’t hold it at a Holiday Inn, huh? I hear they already have roads going to them.
We are learning that the Amazon Rain Forrest is actually so many weeds that have grown up and are hiding the indications of what was a truly vast location of ancient human habitation.
Cutting down the rainforest is actually reclaiming what was once productive human lands

Not to mention the glut of private jets bringing in the climate cultists, celebrities and their hangers on as well as the fleet of likely gasoline powered vehicles to whisk them to the site. The stench of hypocrisy is almost overwhelming.
