The myth that Israel/Netanyahu created/funded Hamas
Jewish News Service ^ | 2023 - October 19 | Daniel Greenfield

Since these false claims that Israel created Hamas or that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu supported Hamas are circulating across social media, let’s address them.

“In recent months, Israel has quietly provided some relief as part of an unofficial, Egyptian-brokered truce with Hamas, in exchange for reduced rocket fire from the territory and the scaling back of weekly protests along the border. It has allowed Qatar to deliver millions of dollars in cash to allow Hamas to pay its civil servants and has allowed the United Nations to step up aid efforts.”

The Haaretz hit piece on Netanyahu is hypocritical because the paper supported the policy.

The policy was terrible. I argued against it. So did anyone seriously concerned about fighting Islamic terrorism. The problem with it was not that Netanyahu was hawkish, but that he was too liberal and prone to giving in to pressure.

Buying calm from Hamas did the opposite. But the truces pushed by Obama had made that the default plan.

Israel, however, was not financing Hamas. It was letting Qatar move money in. As outrageous as that was, it was part of the same system that had Israel providing water and power to Gaza. And the entire agreement in which Israel regularly transfers money and provides services to the P.A., which is no better than Hamas.

Nearly every administration since has pushed Israel to make concessions in exchange for peace. Biden’s visit to Israel climaxed with more of the same, with Israel being forced to once again provide services to the Hamas territory.

That’s the context.

The path to peace after the Fakestinian slaughter attack of 07 Oct 23 is to clean house and terminate their Occupation of so much of Israel. And yes, stop the flow of funding enabling them to keep arming and attaching innocent people.

Well 200,000 Orthodox Jews showed up in Jerusalem (and a sizable crowd as well to the Israeli consulate in NYC) to protest a potential new draft law last week. So there’s some tension even amongst conservatives. Clearly.

“”I don’t think it’s that simple but it does seem like Israelis are stuck between a rock and a hard place when it comes to the leaders they’re able to elect. Netanyahu has lost a lot of good will but there are no good alternatives.””

***

I think it is exactly ‘that simple’. Israel is engaged in an ongoing Catch 22. No matter which way they go, or what direction they take, or what policies they enact, or what reactions they make...

there are factions out there determined to make shock-sure that Israel loses. The entire Gaza/Hamas situation is a lose-lose one for Bibi. It’s surreal how the world seems to be more and more aligned against Israel as the days go by.

Gee... and come to think of it... it’s almost like it’s Biblical in nature.

The article says that while Israel allowed money in from Qatar, it was part of specifically negotiated cease fire agreements, not part of a grand strategy.

Around 25 years ago, Israel was under pressure to surrender Gaza and the West Bank.

Netanyahu is on the record for opposing the two-state solution.

At the time, supporting Hamas (indirectly) was the best way to make sure that the two-state solution was not going to happen.

It's pretty clear. Obviously, Netanyahu did not plan on the scenario where Israel would suffer from the October 7th attacks.

But we were able to see that Hamas was able to gain strength in Gaza while the PLO lost their authority to govern the territory.

It makes sense. But Netanyahu and Israel paid a heavy price for that strategic decision not to decimate Hamas as a legitimate political authority in Gaza earlier.

My only problem with Netanyahu is that he has failed to finish off Hamas when he had them on the ropes. Leaving Hamas in Gaza guarantees the next war, the next massacre, and it guarantees the continued violent repression by Hamas gangsters of the civilian Gazans.

Biblical or not. Middle East or not. The US still needs to be discerning about how it involves itself around the world. Claiming to just pour money and weapons over Israel and calling it the “Lord’s work” is not Biblical. It might even be cursing the region instead of blessing it.

God doesn’t need human interference in helping usher His prophecies along. His promises stand regardless of how you interpret them. Jesus’ only command to His followers is to spread the Gospel to all nations. To seek peace and pursue it.

Netanyahu allowed Hamas to be funded prior to October 7 because he needed them as a foil for the PLO. (Palestinian Liberation Organization led by Mahmoud Abbas) And destroying Hamas now - still leaves the PLO in the picture - and they are considered by the world to actually be legitimate, unlike Hamas.

Abbas and Pope Leo just met yesterday in fact.

So really instead of saying “finish off Hamas” be more up front about what you mean. It likely means more…

Did God abandon Israel?

God “divorced” Israel because of their spiritual adultery and persistent idolatry, a metaphor for breaking their covenant with him. The prophetic image of divorce illustrates the judgment and punishment, such as the Assyrian exile, that resulted from their unfaithfulness, which is described in the book of Jeremiah 3:8.

Spiritual unfaithfulness: The primary reason was Israel’s worship of other gods, which the Bible likens to cheating on a spouse.

Broken covenant: By turning to idols made of “stone and wood,” Israel broke the covenant they had made with God, leading to a rupture of their relationship.

Symbolic divorce: In this metaphor, the “divorce” signifies the severing of the relationship and the consequences that followed. It was a way to illustrate the seriousness of their sin and the holiness of God.

A warning to Judah: The passage in Jeremiah also serves as a warning to the southern kingdom of Judah, showing them the fate of their “unfaithful sister” Israel and urging them to return to God.

Israel often proved to be an unfaithful spouse, committing spiritual adultery by worshiping false gods. Why did God give Israel a certificate of divorce in Jeremiah 3:8?

God issued Israel a “certificate of divorce” to formalize the covenant rupture provoked by entrenched idolatry. King James Version (KJV) states that God gave Israel a “bill of divorce” in Jeremiah 3:8.

What was the promise of God for Israel?

God’s promises to Israel include the covenant to make them a great nation, bless them, and give them an everlasting possession of the land of Canaan. These promises are rooted in the Abrahamic Covenant and involve divine protection, redemption, and the ultimate restoration of the people. Throughout scripture, God also promises to be their God, to bring them through hardship, and to gather them from exile to their homeland.

Core promises to Israel
Abrahamic Covenant: God promised Abraham that his descendants would become a great nation and be a blessing to all peoples on earth. This covenant included a specific, lasting promise of land.

Land and Security: God promised to give Israel the land of Canaan, from the Nile to the Euphrates River, and to plant them there so they would “be disturbed no more”. This includes a guarantee that they will not be uprooted from the land He has given them, says the YouTube video.

Protection and Redemption: The promises include God’s active intervention on their behalf, such as fighting for them and rescuing them from their enemies, according to the Church of the Great God. He promised to bring them out from under the burdens of their oppressors and to redeem them.

Restoration and Joy: Despite periods of exile and hardship, God promised to bring the people back to the land, restore them, and turn their sorrow into joy. This includes gathering them from all corners of the earth.

Everlasting Covenant: The promises are described as unbreakable, with God’s gifts and calling being irrevocable, notes this YouTube video. God’s faithfulness is a central theme, promising to be their God and to fulfill His word.

So that means if someone like AOC were to become President of the United States, God’s promise isn’t going anywhere. God will not abandon Israel. So why this obsession with funding billions towards it even when it becomes counterproductive?

Yes it’s one thing if prophecies help motivate Christian to spread the Gospel, and to look forward to Christ’s coming. It’s a whole other when it’s just about bombing things and taking joy in forever wars and watching the world burn.

You think Israeli citizens want to live in perpetual war? Did you know most IDF soldiers who died in the past two years - 1200 of them were under age 21? You think their mothers take pleasure in that?

NO. They want to live at and in peace too. And the idea striving for peace is somehow disrupting prophecy is proof that there is something seriously reprobate in the dispensational system.

Leaving Hamas in place has been the tacit position for anyone who thinks that negotiating with them is an answer. And it has brought only more war and more misery. It sounds like Netanyahu’s policies have been influenced by Qatar, (and maybe his team, too) and now Trump is dancing with them. Hamas has to go, one way or the other. Into exile or else, basically the choice he has given Maduro.

If Qatar is the head of the snake then the problem becomes just that much simpler and obvious. Bringing peace isn’t so much then about who is going to police Gaza as who is going to police Qatar.
