"You must be a cat lady, Ms. Kaytee," the student said to me through laughter. I was working in a school, and had popped into one of the classrooms to assist with a project. This student who had just met me seconds ago assumed that I "must be" a cat lady.
At the time I laughed: I had one cat, yes, but would hardly call myself a "cat lady." I also had a guinea pig, after all. Maybe this was some new Gen-Z slang that I didn't understand? Maybe "cat lady" means "an adult who is super cool"? (One can only hope.)
Fast forward 5 years, and we just adopted a third cat over the weekend. As I sat on my couch with not just one, but three fur babies, I said to myself, "Kaytee. You're a cat lady."

Muslims and Indians give me a wide berth when I take my dog for a walk. She’s a 95 pound Rotten Shepherd, a really sweet dog who is great with my grandkids and their friends.

My LibTard sister is the Crazy Cat Lady. Her cats ‘sign’ any and all Birthday and Holiday cards. She posts dozens of pictures of her two current cats on her FB page - DAILY.
We have two cats - but it’s a farm and they are necessary. They’re outside most of the time, but are allowed indoors where they behave for the most part. Both are ‘fixed.’
The bigger male likes to sleep with me - but he’s relegated to one tiny corner of the bed and he knows it. The female couldn’t care less - she’s a killing machine (mice, chipmunks) and she totally earns her keep.
The Simpsons had it right.
I know one who is late 70s that is a great person who looks after feral cats and other animals in the area.
The Cat Distribution System will not be defeated. A few months ago, we were back down to two cats. We had three, but it’s a sad tale. Then the wife spots a cute little mostly tortie, partly tabby at the local shelter website. Miss Cookie. Rescued from a local dumpsite. Hid for 6 weeks until she decided that it was ok to come out. She regards the Large Orange One as her hero. Then, not too long after that, a little black stray whom my wife promptly named Licorice decided that he wanted to be a house cat. Sorta. A trip to the vet for shots and an, ah, attitude adjustment ($200 later) and he’s now a member of the family. Little panther boy has glommed on to his dad.
Hard to say who saved who.
They keep me somewhat clam and slightly more sane.
I have a bad temper and their sweetness helps.
You’re not supposed to. That’s kind of the whole point.
Awwww I feel the same about my rescue kittens.
I keep in touch with their new owners and getting pictures of them happy and healthy is the highlight of the work
It’s sad that so many conservatives here have no empathy for God’s creatures. Luckily it’s not that way in my real life.
