President Donald Trump has demanded a Justice Department investigation into meatpacking companies he believes are driving up beef prices through illegal means.
"I have asked the DOJ to immediately begin an investigation into the Meat Packing Companies who are driving up the price of Beef through Illicit Collusion, Price Fixing, and Price Manipulation," Trump posted on Truth Social.
"We will always protect our American Ranchers, and they are being blamed for what is being done by Majority Foreign Owned Meat Packers, who artificially inflate prices, and jeopardize the security of our Nation's food supply.
"Action must be taken immediately to protect Consumers, combat Illegal Monopolies, and ensure these Corporations are not criminally profiting at the expense of the American People," Trump continued.
"I am asking the DOJ to act expeditiously."
Attorney General Pam Bondi responded in a post on X: "Our investigation is underway!"

I don’t know why brisket is so expensive. You have to cook it for hours to make it edible.
But is it federal? I dont know the laws related to meat packing but I do know that small custom processors in this area are running at high enough capacity that there is room in the market for more to keep opening. We just recently got two more.
They are for the most part only allowed to sell in state if I understand correctly, the ones that can ship outside are regulated differently and cant handle/sell/ship all the same cuts. Different inspectors.

Israel is growing steaks in a tank using egg cells from mommy cows not immortal cell lines which is prohibited in Israel. As is the harvesting of growth hormone from baby cows.
Gripe all you want but with $35/lb plus for steaks if the Israelis put $10 cultivated steaks and $3/lb ground beef on the market it will sell out luddites need not apply. Stay big mad and hungry. This is not two years to market it’s days in a tank to market.
