Aussies are one step closer to direct London and New York flights, with Qantas unveiling the first pictures of its new long-haul aircraft on Friday morning.
Known as 'Project Sunrise', the service is named for the phenomenon where passengers on the London route see two sunrises during their flight. The first aircraft is now on the Airbus assembly line in France.
Qantas will operate 12 specially configured aircraft, enabling the world's longest commercial flights and connecting Australia's east coast - both Melbourne and Sydney - non-stop to London and New York for the very first time.

Bring back the Concorde and supersonics!
Dang that’s a great idea. Or at least just have people choose to wear the mask that gives it to them.
New York and London eh? Two centres of Islam now. Think again Aussies. You’re thinking of the New York and London of the past.
Why would any moron in their right mind want to fly to New Yawk non-stop? They should at least stop long enough to purchase something to eat.
*yawn*
Flying to London and New York non-stop would be tricky. Those departing at London would have to parachute out.
Flights to the US should be blocked. We have enough leftist woke tards here already.
I think I see a new cut-rate business model for air travel in there...
“plane that will fly Aussies to London and New York non-stop”
In order to accomplish flying to New York without having to stop at London I’m guessing the new aircraft has bomb bay doors that open and eject the Londoners.
It's still technologically impressive.
Expect such planes also to be used on other routes.
Man o man. I flew from LA to Sydney in 2000. That was a long flight. No jetlag.
Easy to see why it doesn’t use much fuel-it doesn’t have any engines on it. /s
Actually, my comment made me think of another way to make extreme long range flights. They are experimenting with cargo gliders over in Fort Worth. Use a 747 or a 380 to tow the plane for the first 1000 miles or so. Then cut it loose and let it fly the rest of the way on its own. That should add about 800 miles to the range.
The return flights should be packed, not that Australia is that much better.
I flew Dubai to Sydney about 6 years ago....14-hour flight...slept most of the time.

And
The first of the 12 new aircraft is scheduled for delivery in late 2026

There's nothing new under the Sun!
I hate Qantas

The aussies are not far behind.
The behind-the-scenes narrative is setting up for the epic eucatastrophe. I know exactly of what I speak, so I don’t mind being perceived as the FReighborhood kook. It’s part of the fun! Besides, I love the word ‘gobsmacked’.
“A eucatastrophe is a sudden turn of events in a story which ensures that the protagonist does not meet some terrible, impending, and plausible and probable doom.”
