The former White House chief strategist has long preached the idea that populism is the engine of modern politics. And he sees Mamdani’s election as mayor of New York City as proof of its staying power — and a sign of the growing anti-establishment force on the left that Republicans would be foolish to ignore.
“Tonight should be a wake up call to the populist nationalist movement under President Trump,” he said in an interview with POLITICO Magazine just after midnight on Wednesday. “These are very serious people, and they need to be addressed seriously.”
Bannon seemed impressed by the Mamdani campaign’s ability to turn out low-propensity voters — “this is kind of the Trump model” — though he branded Mamdani a “neo-Marxist,” rather than a populist. And he is eager to have Trump and his administration battle Mamdani in the days ahead. In a wide-ranging conversation following Democrats’ big wins in New Jersey and Virginia, Bannon also ripped Republicans for their failures, discussed how the GOP can avoid a 2026 midterm rout and laid out what Trump’s immediate next moves should be.

When you think there’s no hope left, remember the lobsters in the tank at the Titanic’s restaurant.
Get over it it’s ny...
Third world commie immigrants settling in NYC elected him. Stop all immigration now for ten years.
100 years
Agree- this is the same third world craphole that elected and keeps re-electing AOC despite the fact things keep getting worse and worse and worse...
That definition of insanity?? It’s NYChitty in real time...
So 9/11 didn’t matter because it’s NY? 🙄
Obama carried red states not too long ago and he has not left the picture either. He showed up in Virginia over the weekend and has agreed to be a personal mentor to Mamdani and the like.
Neo-Marxist??? Deceptive, happy-faced TOTALITARIAN of the jihadist type. Listen to his WORDS.
That’s a GREAT first step.
“Third world commie immigrants settling in NYC elected him.”
Yes, along with a sizable number of young white voters along with liberal Jewish voters. Dems are winning the propaganda wars.
NYC, NJ, VA, and CA are all liberal bastions. Yes, it was a bad night for our side, but these are not surprising results. Too many white liberals aren’t suffering yet.
Archive this fact before too much time passes and they try to memory-hole it:
Mamdani was born in Kampala, Uganda.
>So what, you bigot! Senator Ted “Wolverine” Cruz
Our candidates suck.
He was already blaming Trump for not allowing him to give free candy to the children.
Why do you ignore Mississippi, Texas and Georgia? Red to blue flips that were 40 years in the red column. I think this is worse.
Next year, in New York City will be twenty-fifth anniversary of the attacks on September 11th.
Will it be a memorial or a celebration . . .
Many of Mandami's voters weren't even born then.
We needed a wake call. Climb over broken glass to vote on 2027@
Why is everyone so shocked? Its NYC! 🙄
