The ocean is holding back a giant "burp" which scientists now say could cause the equivalent of "several centuries" of climate change

I do believe that the climate alarmists have reached the "depression" stage of grief, where they're beginning to realize that the hysteria they've built their lives around is actually rather meaningless.

Popular Mechanics reports:

The ocean is humanity's greatest ally in the fight against anthropogenic climate change. According to the United Nations, the world's oceans produce 50 percent of the oxygen we breathe, absorb around 30 percent of atmospheric carbon, and capture 90 percent of the excess heat produced by greenhouse emissions. Without the ocean, we'd be well and truly cooked.

However, the ocean's role as a carbon sink is complicated, and new research suggests that even under an ideal climate scenario — one where humanity gets its act together and creates a net-negative carbon world — heat trapped in the Southern Ocean could be "burped" up, producing anthropogenic climate change-like effects for decades or even centuries.

The ocean after climate activists spend five decades trying to convince everyone to lose their minds with panic:

You just gotta love the irony: Years and years of dogged, furious effort on the part of the Left to make climate panic happen, and yet even if we enter a "net-negative" carbon scenario, the ocean is just going to basically fart and render it all meaningless.

Indeed, the study indicates that the alleged "burp" of heat would have the same affect as, apparently, "several centuries" worth of energy-generating activity:

[The study] showed that over several centuries of cooling, an abrupt discharge of heat will increase global mean temperatures in a similar way to those experienced by humans between the post-industrial era and the (hopefully) net-negative carbon future.

Me after I spent 300 years reducing my carbon output only for the ocean to just spew it all back in my face:

Good luck with all this, climate alarmists!

Let's think about this in terms of carbonated water in a bottle.

"Carbonated water typically contains about 0.5% to 1% carbon dioxide (CO2) by volume, depending on the level of carbonation desired."

"About 30% of the carbon dioxide emissions produced by human activities are absorbed by the ocean, which contains significantly more dissolved carbon dioxide than the atmosphere."

If you shake the bottle of carbonated water and open it the carbonated water gushes out.

If you took an empty bottle, filled it with ocean water, capped it, shook it, and then opened it, would the water gush out?

I know this is a "by volume" situation but I don't see CO2 gushing out of the ocean any time in the future even if the percentage by volume of CO2 in the ocean increases significantly.

If one of ‘em is found in a dumpster once in a while, that could work too.

Okay, so the “scientists”are now concerned that mother Gaia may make a planetary adjustment on her own? I guess that means they want to use that as another excuse to dick around with something they really don’t understand and put humanity at risk?

Question?

Did they ever find the missing 27% of Co2 they were looking for?

This was in the 1990 - 2000 year range. NASA launched two satellites to look for and measure Co2.

There were no big announcements but JPL was also involved with it.

Oh well if you need more info look here. https://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/4350019/posts

Another last ditch effort to gin up interest prior to CoP30.

Agreed. There is no “heat stored in the ocean.” That is a tale invented by a climate cultist to explain where all the missing heat went, that CO 2 allegedly causes, but which nobody can find or account for. Now they are telling stories based on stories. Science has long since left the room.

The climate change cultists have yet to explain or even acknowledge that in relatively recent history, much of the northern hemisphere was covered with sheets of ice a mile thick in places. Obviously this Ice Age, actually the most recent of possibly two similar events, was not caused by dinosaurs farting or our distant ancestors driving SUVs. We are in an interglacial period and temperatures are on the decline. All of this man caused climate change claptrap has never been based on serious science and is now a cult religion.

Popular Mechanics? When did that magazine - that was about DIY projects and mechanical how to, became a science magazine?

Dad told me that he loved it when he was growing up.

“…capture 90 percent of the excess heat produced by greenhouse emissions.”

The predominant “greenhouse gas“ is water vapor. It does not produce one degree of excess heat. Reject their incorrect (or lying) assumptions. Call them out on them, every single time.
