More than 300 piles of cremated human remains have been found scattered across the Nevada desert.
A man discovered them near the remote town of Searchlight, about an hour outside Las Vegas, on July 28.
A team from Palm Mortuaries and Cemeteries arrived at the scene on Wednesday to remove the piles.
They found about 315 sets of ashes and placed them each in individual urns.
It comes after officials launched an initial investigation which confirmed in August that the mounds were human, 8 News Now reported.
However, no traceable information could be salvaged from the 'cremains' - a term a staff member at the Bureau of Land Management used to refer to the piles.
Authorities believe a funeral home littered the desert with the ashes, but have not released details of any businesses suspected of being involved.
While spreading human remains is permitted on public land in Nevada, mass commercial dumping by funeral homes is illegal under state law.
Businesses are required to 'preserve' the dignity of remains which have been entrusted to them.

Time to bring in Gil Grisham and the CSI lab
Don’t know about funeral homes but they certainly control just about every concrete firm in the country. That’s where the cement shoes come from.
I suppose it's never too late to comb the desert.

In the old days it was said the largest cemetery in America was between Vegas and LA.
Yes, kills all infectious germs, and no space required in a cematary.
They have not said how old these remains are.
They may go back to the 50’s to 70’s when the Mafia ran the city............
“”Harry Reid’s hometown””
Couldn’t place where I’d heard Searchlight, NV before.
Thanks.
I believe that bones are not reduced to ash and have to be crushed into powder. They couldn’t even be bothered to do that.
What I want know is, does Walter Sobchak have an alibi?
When the earth goes up in flames under a giant fireball, who will be left to pick up the 8 billion ashes of people?
Apparently all the holes are full.
Then what? No one to claim them, that's why they ended up scattered in the desert in the first place.
So 315 urns now reside in another funeral home in NV. At least for now, until nobody is looking...
My suspicion would be that the deceased had no one left to pick up their ashes. Eventually, someone working in the funeral home wanted to put them somewhere other than a dumpster. Being so far from an ocean, the next choice was the desert.
Pay yo’ gambling bills.
A more desolate sh*thole would be hard to find.
For dust thou art, and unto dust thou shall return..................
And though the holes were rather small
They had to count them all
