Jamaica has almost 3 million people. “15,000 Jamaicans are hunkered down in shelters”

You’d think the biggest storm of all time would leave a lot more people hunkered down.

Get ready for all the “Trump cut USAID and caused Jamaican Deaths” stories from the media.

I am sure there was tragedy on the western side. But Kingston on the eastern side looks fine this am. It could have been worse.

Also the storm had weakened before reaching Montego Bay.

I would think as a tourist you should do some research where you plan to take a vacation and avoid the Carribean during September and October, the peak months for hurricane weather.

It says 15,000 are hunkered down in shelters. Most are hunkered down in their homes.

Just think.

A couple decided to spend their honeymoon vacationing in Jamaica.

There was a whole lot of prayer going before Melissa hit Jamaica.

I’ve not heard how GITMO is faring. We hunkered down for many hurricanes in the 60’s. One of them hit us 3 times. It kept circling around for another pass.

“hunkered down in their homes.”

So it can’t be that bad if they were able to stay at home. Right?

If a tourist is trapped by a slow-motion storm that they were being warned about over a week ago, they deserve all the misery they chose to stay for.

I was thinking more Steven Bishop:

Down in Jamaica
They go lots of pretty women
Steal your money
Then they break your heart

I feel bad for the residents. The tourists...not at all.
Hurricanes don’t sneak up on you, this one came all the way across the Atlantic. There was weeks of predictions, most of which were not far off.
Perhaps paying a little attention, might have prevented their inconvenience. Fools.
