It’s so wonderful that they care so much about us. First they stop mammogram screening, now they wanna stop psa testing and colonoscopy…because they care about us.

Has nothing to do with them wanting the population to die off and for us to not get expensive treatments. Take the blue pill… big medical and big government care about you.

“Medicare and the Veterans Administration fund most of this treatment,”

The main concern in a nutshell

As a “super user” of the healthcare system over the past ten years, I have learned that the patient has to be their own best advocate. With the advent of the internet and now AI, the patient has a world of information at their fingertips. And it can be explained in layman’s terms—-or in pure medical terms.

Tests are wonderful. They are literally finding new testing methods all the time. But the responses and the treatments are pretty much “cookie cutter.” It is up to the patient and their advocates to understand the risks and benefits from those treatments.

Millions of patients wander through the healthcare system like zombies.

Having worked with medical professionals for a decade, I can say that I’ve never heard a single case of a doctor discussing how they can make more money by doing a procedure or test. I have heard them discuss how they have to DO more to cover their asses from lawsuits. Their primary interest has ALWAYS been the benefit of the patient.

Obviously my experience is not ALL medical professionals. But I cringe when I see people write comments about how greedy these people are and that they only practice to make more money. That is simply not the experience of most surgeons and oncologists that I know and have observed.

So, take control of your own treatment. Do a modest amount of research. Be careful about who you believe and check your sources. Medical care is complicated and includes a lot of tradeoffs as multiple chronic diseases start attacking us.

“The man who found PSA receives angry emails from men whose lives were destroyed by unnecessary treatment triggered by elevated PSA levels.”

One doesn’t have to read any further than that BS.

NOBODY and I mean NOBODY gets Prostate Cancer treatment due to a high PSA. It’s just a trigger to get a biopsy, which is minor.

And the biopsy will tell you if you have a cancer, and whether is is high or low risk.

The article is bullshit.

Several years ago I had a PSA reading that jumped drastically. As a result, I was tested, had to go for the biopsy only to find out there was no cancer. I honestly believe the medical office purposely inflated the test score just so a local doctor could pay his bills because when I went in for the final consult, they said several people recently tested came back negative for any kind of cancer.

I say that because ever since my PSA levels have been "normal." And I absolutely refuse to have a colonoscopy. To me it's just another way of charging customers for procedures they don't need in order to help medical professional to pay their bills.

Watchful waiting is one I don’t understand. It seems to me a lot like measuring with a micrometer how close you can get to a mule before he kicks the hell out of you.

So, what is PSA? When ejaculating, the prostate coats sperm with PSA. The PSA weakens the outer layer of the egg, to allow the sperm to enter the egg. When cancer is present, the PSA weakens cell walls to allow the cancer to spread more easily.

When my PSA went over 4.0 I had a biopsy, which showed I had intermediate grade prostate cancer. But, another test showed that my cancer was extremely slow growing. So, I have been on active surveillance (a version of watchful waiting) for six years. Every six months I have a biopsy, MRI or PSA test. BTW, the VA has always been a strong supporter of watchful waiting, which spares millions of men from the side effects of surgery.
Despite the debate over PSA testing, getting the test is better than doing nothing, or relying on a digital exam alone. Dying from prostate cancer is very painful and men need to get tested. Doing nothing can be a death sentence.

More important than the raw score is the rate of change in the numbers.
