Republicans Who Have Rarely Opposed Trump Raise Questions About His Drug War
NEW YORK TIMES ^ | Oct 25 | By Robert Jimison and Megan Mineiro

A growing number of Republicans on Capitol Hill have raised concerns about President Trump’s expanding war against drug cartels carried out without consultation or authorization by Congress, and are pressing for more information and involvement in a campaign whose legal basis remains murky.

Most in the group have not expressed explicit opposition to the strikes that have been carried out so far against boats in the Caribbean Sea and, this week, expanded to the Pacific. The vast majority of Republicans have enthusiastically rallied behind them, and this month, all but two of them voted to block a measure that would terminate the president’s campaign.

But for a G.O.P.-led Congress that has seldom questioned Mr. Trump on any matter, foreign or domestic, the skepticism reflects a rare and potentially significant bit of dissent over a widening war.

“We have oversight responsibilities, and we expect to get our questions answered,” Senator Mike Rounds, Republican of South Dakota and a member of the Armed Services Committee, said in an interview on Wednesday.

It’s just what I’ve read it’s hard to get facts or know for sure isn’t it? (on both sides of this argument)

Imagine if you got it wrong and you travel somewhere 40 years later and get prosecuted and held due to an allegation like that

That’s what I’m getting at and could await any military officer

Surely they know this im surprised they carry this out half the time but that’s just me (I know im in a small minority here_

You ignorance of the information our state of the art intelligence system is to be expected. You will never know how they do it or what they know. That’s the nature of a good intelligence operation. What you need to do is trust they are doing their job getting the drug trafficking stopped. These are foreign terrorist operations. Leave our Naval strike groups run a tight ship and get the job done.

There is an benefit in putting a stop to the distribution system. The destruction of these drug running boats deprives those coordinating these runs of the monetary revenue from the sales of those drugs. The loss of that revenue will be devastating and serves to collapse their operation. It also puts a big hit on the money spent on those expensive boats. No need to directly eliminate those coordinating their operation if you can hit them hard in the pocketbook and bankrupt them.

You can write paragraphs but you’re not giving me any facts

It’s hard to know...

The senators DO get briefed and there’s half a dozen there (GOP) saying they have questions

After voting against the resolution to end the boat strikes, Senator Todd Young, Republican of Indiana, issued a lengthy statement on social media in which he called the measure overly broad, but said he remained “highly concerned” about the legality of the strikes and the “trajectory of military operations without congressional approval.”

“While the Constitution grants Article II authorities to the executive branch to defend against imminent threats, Congress alone is entrusted with decisions of war and peace,” he added.

NY couple:

Honey, we can get a 3000 sq foot home with five acres of land for less than a million dollars! And they have a progressive governor and the senators there always hate trump!

We could rent it out but keep our upper west side apartment of course. But its not that far from Chicago and Indy. State income tax is 4% and on track to go down to 3.5% and eventually eliminated! Wife: is this real? hubby: Sure is!

Wifey, lets not tell the kids.

Let’s do it! You could run for office too, haa haa.

I was going to mention the effort to defeat the barbary pirates. I also think these foreign terrorist operations are a similar situation and it puts the solution into a naval arena. “Anchors Aweigh. Sail on to victory And sink their bones to Davy Jones, hooray!”

If you don’t buy the idea that massive drug shipments from Marxist Central and South America and sponsored by China CCP and Soros, and Neville Roy Singham then I could understand why you’d be perplexed as to why the President would be acting like our country is being attacked by existential threats.

Then Jefferson should have never executed war on the Barbary Pirates and should have been impeached.

Good grief. RF posts a NYT story that claims Murkoswski, Collins, and Lankford never go against Trump.

RF is a divisive jerk who lives to post falsehood dressed up as truth. He will post something from the NYT as if they're actually interested in truth. Then lay back like a snake coiled and ready. Telling us all with a straight face that those three would never, ever go against Trump.

You sir are a laughingstock. Most of us here know who you are. A divider and a muck raker. So predictable. So despicable.

You are trying to describe to blind folks what a color looks like.

It is impossible.

These folks are hell bent on cutting off their own heads to cure a brain tumor.

The timer has been set for the self destruction of this domain. The purists are going to kill it themselves. So all your efforts are in vain anyhow, there is no saving it.

In reality , in international waters there is no law. These drug runners fly no flag and are basically pirates. It has always been open season on them. What government is protesting? Crickets.

The open ocean is a brutal place. Get over it.
