Trail Blazers coach and NBA Hall of Famer Chauncey Billups and Heat guard Terry Rozier have been arrested in connection with an FBI sports betting and poker probe, according to ESPN.

FBI director Kash Patel and the Eastern District of New York will hold a press conference Thursday morning to further discuss the case and “numerous arrests in illegal sports betting and poker games schemes,” including two indictments, according to a press release.

Billups, 49, has been charged in an illegal poker scheme linked to organized crime, sources told The Post.

Rozier, 31, previously had been under investigation for unusual betting activity during his time with the Hornets, specifically a March 2023 contest.

- I suspect this is rampant and not just in basketball either.....it wouldn't surprise me to learn the nfl is rife with players manipulating the outcome of games.

It’s ironic that there are so many gambling advertisements now on TV broadcasts. I agree that there is likely a lot going on behind the scenes.

Gambling in professional sports? What do the purists at the Las Vegas franchises have to say about that?

Fans don’t watch sports for the sport anymore. They watch it to gamble. Idiots owe Pete Rose an apology. Way to go NBA. Now it’s time to go after the Gay Bunny’s MFL

I would say, the amount of gambling on professional sports by professional athletes today versus years ago is probably the same, the difference is now most of the gambling is done thru legal sportsbooks making it far easier to catch people gambling that should not be gambling.

Years ago, sports gambling was done thru organized crime, today it’s done thru legal sportsbooks that are regulated.

IMO, the single reason the NFL is the most popular sport in America is because of gambling and it’s always been that way.

Gambling on the NFL is the easiest form gambling to understand; all the games are on TV and most of the games happen on one day of the week.

I used to know a person here in Jacksonville that took sports bets as a side hustle, he had some large customers eventually got caught but somehow managed to skate which I chalk up to his customers being well connected around town.

An NBA coach surely makes enough money not to jeopardize it gambling, right? Apparently not - the need to gamble is a mental sickness for some.

You might want to tune in to Fox News right now. The FBI is holding a press conference right now and they are naming several factions of the mafia that are right in the middle of.
-
The Bonanno, Gambino and Genovese crime families have all been named.

Gambling is an addiction just like any other.....drugs, alcohol, porn.....that’s why they all have recovery programs specifically designed to assist with overcoming them.

It will be interesting when more of the details are known, recently Gilbert Arenas former NBA player was arrested for illegal gambling, his form of gambling was hosting high limit poker rooms. In that case Jewish Organized crime was supposedly also involved.

At the time of his arrest Arenas said he would never go to jail and speculation now is he cut a deal with the government and is informing on everyone he knows in exchange for easing up on his charges.

Professional athletes and coaches gambling through “legal sportsbooks” would be a major problem for these sports leagues, but it probably wouldn’t even be a crime anyway. So the FBI involvement is almost certainly related to other criminal activities related to this gambling.

I suspect this is just the tip of the iceberg.....the FBI just shared that the investigation is still ongoing and expanding.

Some of the people who have been arrested today are being accused of gambling on the NBA and specifically on themselves, which will get you banned for life from the NBA.

In the Terry Rozier case, legal sports books alerted authorities about suspicious bets being placed on play prop bets relating to Terry Rozier, the FBI went back and looked at one game that I heard about where Rozier pulled himself out of a game with an ankle injury, the person with all the suspicious bets cashed them all in.

Using legal sports books by professional athletes to bet on themselves or their team is illegal and will get you banned from the sport.
