Not everyone can manually shift a car much less a motorcycle.....I strongly suspect this was done to expand the customer base to those who can’t.
A shrewd business move if you ask me.
As a long time rider of two wheelers, there are times when a motorcycle operator will need to use both hands AND both feet all at the same time to ride properly.
Right hand throttle
Left hand clutch
Right foot brake
Left foot shifter
Done it a million times......I can assure you, that’s not for everybody.
Right foot brake
Left foot shifter
My 67 Triumph is the opposite it can get confusing sometimes.
uh, you left out right hand front brake.
Most critical if you want to stop fast.
Yes, not for everyone. My brother tried to teach me how to ride his cycle. I kept mixing up which hand does what. It did not end well.
I tend to agree withyou. It just opens the market up to those who do not wish to shift gears. I’m sure that there will still be the old fasnioned motorcycles being produced, at least ultil demand for them dries up to a number that will make them not worth producing.
Everyone used top handle manually shifting a car, truck or motorcycle then came complete laziness.
Today’s youth prefer Uber or self driving vehicles so they can keep their brain dead eyes emerged in their phones.
Shifting is a pain in the ass. It’s a remnant from the days when technology couldn’t get enough power to the driving wheel.
“Left foot shifter”
Don’t British and Jap bikes have this on different sides?
If you are too disabled to operate a clutch a motorcycle is not for you.
And
Left foot brake
Right foot shift
At one time I owned both types of controls on different bikes at the same time. Fun and games. In fact until the Japanese came along almost all bike had right foot shift.

“Not everyone can manually shift a car much less a motorcycle.”
Then they should not be riding it... If they can’t figure that out they are a hazard from the start and don’t belong on a motorcycle.
20 years ago Himself installed a Rekluse “ auto clutch “ in my first trike.
I served as a “ demo” for people who might want it, such as the numerous Vets missing limbs, that would he built trikes for.
Yes it was “ trick” and it worked very well but I was not a fan of it.
Why did I learn to shift only to turn around and not need to?
I will say that the automatic Ridley motorcycles he was first to figure out how to convert to trikes • were• fun.
I miss riding.
