"An older male was seen picking up approximately $7,400 in cash that had fallen from the roof of the car of its rightful owner," police said.
Police in Kennebunk, Maine are looking for a man who, they say, pocketed more than $7,000 in cash that was left in a roadway after falling off the roof of a car.
A report of stolen property came in on Oct. 15, the Kennebunk Police Department said on Facebook.
“An older male was seen picking up approximately $7,400 in cash that had fallen from the roof of the car of its rightful owner. The money was from the sale of a vehicle,” the department said.
The man, who as wearing a blue shirt and brown pants, afterwards got into a dark gray Honda CR-V and drove westbound on Fletcher Street at around 6:50 p.m., police said.
The department shared images apparently from a dash cam showing two men, including the man in the blue shirt and brown pants, standing in a road looking at something on the ground, then picking something up and walking away.
The department asked anyone with information to call and Officer David Brown at 207-985-6121.

What kind of idiot stores $7000 on a car roof?
Yes, it’s rhetorical...
LOL, my first thought too, I guess its not a valid defense in court
Our then-7 year old son found a wallet with $100 cash nearly 25 years ago. I asked him “What should you do with it?” He thought a bit and replied “Somebody lost it and they should get it back.” I drove him to the PD and he turned it in. Four or six weeks later it was unclaimed and he got the money. I was very proud of him.
Good luck.
If the finder takes steps to locate the owner and is unsuccessful, finders keepers should apply. But if he doesn’t take steps to find the owner it could turn into some type of lost or mislaid property charge if they ever identify the finder.

Same thought process putting dog on roof? Just throwin’ it out there.
I’ve heard stories of police “finding” large sums of money on someone and then confiscating all of the money because — obviously — they guy must be a drug dealer. I guess it’s OK when they do it.
for it to be legal, you have to add the “losers weepers” part
I have driven off from a 711 Store, accidentally leaving a
Big Gulp frosty ice drink (Blueberry) on the top of my roof.
I was on the phone, while standing at the driverside door, and forgot it. As I back up, I heard a soft ‘splosh’ over my head. My windshield wipers + fluid helped to remove the icy mess. Was my own fault. But I have never left a big ol’ bag of loot on the roof of my car and drove off.
Drug money found is drug money gone. Getting the police to find your drug money... That's genius.
“Scoop and Score”
First off, if the party losing the money doesn’t have proof it’s his, they both have a claim to it.
If he had serial #’s of the bills, it would help his case, but I seriously doubt he does.
SSS applies here. Pick up the dough, let him prove it’s his.
They also found some drugs in the wall.
They called the cops. They ended up getting the money after a certain amount of time.
Believe it or not, nobody claimed it or the drugs.
A buddy had a roof rack on his car he found out you could “click in” a removable stroller chair that doubled as a baby car seat.
Anyway, one April 1 he drove around with a doll in the seat.
Got pulled over at gunpoint by the cops.
Now, about the Louve...
That’s the world’s view. The moral view is that it isn’t yours until it goes unclaimed. Which do you want to explain to Him on Judgment Day?
I once found a wallet with $450 in it. Since it had all kinds of ID in it, I just drove to the lady’s house and gave it to her.
Bid they search the Bushes?
