The broad-daylight heist, which was pulled off in just seven minutes, happened 800m from Paris police headquarters.
Robbers wielding power tools scaled a furniture hoist outside the Louvre to make off with priceless jewellery from the world-renowned museum on Sunday (Oct 19), taking just seven minutes for the brazen, broad-daylight heist, sources and officials said. The criminals struck at about 9.30am local time when the museum had already opened its doors to the public. They entered the Gallerie d'Apollon (Apollo's Gallery) building, which is home to the French Crown Jewels, the Interior Ministry said in a statement. It did not say exactly what had been taken.
"The investigation has begun, and a detailed list of the stolen items is being compiled. Beyond their market value, these items have priceless heritage and historical value," the statement said. Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez said the thieves used a basket lift, forced open a window and smashed display cases. No injuries were reported, either among the public or among Louvre staff or law enforcement officers.
The brazen robbery happened just 800m from Paris police headquarters.

Why not? There frogs allow illegal alien muzzies to come in and rape and murder their women without consequence. Why would anyone think they would care to stop thieves at the louvre?
Got to agree with Bon of Babble. Something this specific, they either already have a buyer or this was “burglary on commission.”
They also had inside help, so there are a lot of moving parts to this operation, which has “Organized Crime” written all over it.
It also bears mention that European mobsters sometimes steal high-profile art just because they can, even stuff they know they can’t fence, then stash it away for safe keeping to be used as a bargaining chip if/when they get caught dead to rights doing something else.
So the French government by it’s security laxity yet again surrenders.
LOL!
How pathetic.
I was shocked at how accessible most major works at the Louvre are. It's great to see them up close but in a world full of civilization-hating parasites the risk seems extreme.
That's true - it says so right on the display case labels.
Didn’t Colonel Potter have
something hanging in The Louvre?
Well I got the pistol
So I get the pesos
Yeah, that seems fair...
