I was thinking of starting a new weekly about ‘First Time Reactions’...
There are SO many.. but this one, while I was considering it, hit a chord.
Not about their first time reaction, but the song and its meaning, and memories.
Please, let me know if you are interested in “First Time Reactions”..
If so, I will try to find a FReeper that will keep it up.
Would have thought that grunge would actually induce PTSD in a soldier!
Regards,
At the time, grunge was just stepping in..
I had just gotten back from Desert Storm..
At the time, I actually hated the clothing style change.. they looked homeless, dirty, and torn.
I also hated the new style (besides the homeless look), when camo became popular. I felt that no one that didn’t go through boot-camp deserved to wear camo (BDUs).
Find the first reactions to phil collins and up in the air tonight. Love the drop.
Lol.. I had watched Phil Collins 1st ‘years’ ago (within the last couple of years)... so much history (and lack of knowledge from anyone born after about 1990)...\
Currently watching (I think Irish) girl watching Billy Idol.. she is calling him Sting...
BTW.. when I hear this song.. I thing Miami Vice... ;^)
*think*
I howled like WTH is that???
Jerry Cantrell wrote this song for his Vietnam veteran Father. I always loved this song.
Another visionary musician taken way too early imo.
There was a behind-the-video series years ago, I think from MTV, and Cantrell was talking about this song and the video. His father was very upset about his life choices, and he wanted to do his dad proud to show him he was doing the right thing. When his dad saw the video for the first time, he was speechless. That always stuck with me every time I've heard the song since.
I was a teenager when Dirt dropped, and I remember listening to it over and over again. It was the absolute peak of grunge and represented everything about my childhood. AiC and old school, original Pearl Jam were emblematic of those of us who lived through this period. It touched on everything Gen X was living and experiencing at the time.
Thank you for posting that! Great way for this GenX kid to start the day.
That was really interesting. Reminds me of how old I am though. I was 12 years old when the Paris Peace accords were signed, ending US involvement in the war. I had friends in my town who had older brothers who enlisted and some injured and some died there. I have many relatives who served there and a few who were injured or died there, a few very close relatives and I can’t really fathom what they went through there, but I know most of them came back to live very productive lives overcoming their trauma for the most part. None of them, not a single one of them want to talk about their experiences there, at least not with people who were not there.
