Senators will force a vote to prevent war on Venezuela without approval from Congress

Amid a wave of U.S. military strikes in the Caribbean and plans for covert operations in Venezuela, Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., is leading a bipartisan effort to force a vote to stop President Trump from unilaterally declaring war on the South American nation.

Kaine, a longtime proponent of Congress' powers to declare war, filed the resolution late Thursday, a move that will force the Senate to take up the legislation after a 10-day waiting period. Sens. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., and Rand Paul, R-Ky., co-sponsored the plan.

Kaine said concerns about war in the Latin American region are growing.

"The pace of the announcements, the authorization of covert activities and the military planning makes me think there's some chance this could be imminent," Kaine told reporters.

Back to some serious business and concern is Trump wants to topple Maduro in Caracas? Kaine and Rand Paul want to make it clear that the president does not declare War and that it's a matter for Congress

I think that's fair and I hope some of you agree.....

Looking beyond the MSM, there is an announced agreement Maduro and Putin that Russia will serve as mediator for the Venezuela/US talks.

Kaine and Rand are two Senators that nobody takes seriously when it comes to the defense of the USA.

They’re telling us that Congress loves Commies and murderous dictators and they don’t want President Trump to stop such bugs.

As usual, Rand Paul agrees with the left.

No declaration needed. Read the relevant laws.

It does not matter whether I agree or not. What matters is what the Constitution reads.

The Maduro Senators don’t want to lose their cut from the drug trades.

No one has ever claimed the President has the power to declare war.

He has the power, however, to wage war as long as his stockpile of men and materiel lasts. And given an almost $1 trillion a year war budget, that's quite a long time.

The Congress has no power to substitute their authority for the President's over the military under the Constitution. If they don't like what he's doing, they can impeach or not fund the military, the latter being the ultimate check by English parliaments on royal war waging.

Read the War Powers Act. Yes, I don’t know more than you.

Who doesn’t?

BS. They are telling no such thing. Reminding President Trump that Congress holds the authority to declare war is no different then holding Congress to account when they decide to replace Trump’s authority.

The U.S. government might not love Commies but they have been known to get cozy with a murderous dictator when it suited certain interests.

Do you mean the War Powers Resolution? That does set limits on the president and does involve Congress. See link below.

Are there tither ways to “topple” Maduro without war?

Seems like a silly war to me. Don’t we have some native Spanish speaking spies? Smuggle them in on subs a possibility?

Yes it does. Reporting. You do it then report it.

Operation Desert Shield in 1991 is an example.

Doesn’t sound very covert if it’s being reported in the news
