Senior Dem Senate Source Says Chuck Schumer Seriously Considering Retirement
Townhall ^

Posted on 10/17/2025 10:56:07 AM PDT by DIRTYSECRET

Townhall has been hearing whispers that the longtime New York Senator could be retiring from public life for numerous reasons, not least being that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) could make good on her move to primary him. Now, AOC venturing outside the state could be an early move to consolidate her national constituency for a 2028 presidential run, which she could do, but she has options. And this seat is gettable for her: Schumer is not well-liked among Democratic voters, and his fundraising has been abysmal.

Whatever we're doing it's gotta be working. The optics are better if it looks like we ran him out. Same with Durbin.

AOC has a choice to make. Would it be smarter to go for the senate seat rather than the WH? As the author says the senate seat is 'gettable'. A POTUS run would end her career. She's dumb enough to think she'd win. Democrats prefer the younger candidates that can talk. Think JFK, BJ, the Kenyan. You couldn't pin them down. AOC would be exposed under national scrutiny unlike now where the MSM sweeps her shortcomings under the rug. Let them think she's more 'likable' than Hillary and Kamala. Throw in the young(er) element along with the(more) attractive looks and she could walk into a trap.

He’s 74. I think that’s what’s working. Some undisclosed health issues, I’ll bet.

I think deep down Schumer isn’t happy with how far left the Democratic Party has gone, and he’s tired of having to defend it.

He was more popular when he wore his glasses on the end of his nose.

Seriously? The Senate is a nursing home filled with old people who lock up, forget who they are, etc. It's like the Hotel California there, you can check out any time you like but you can never leave.

If a dem "contemplates retiring" or gets indicted it's for one reason: the party decided it was time for him to go and so the wheels are set in motion.

Let’s say Trump gets Russia out of Ukraine and the US out of NATO. China gives up on Taiwan and there’s peace in the Middle East. In those scenarios the table could be set for a democrat in the WH as the pendulum tends to swing. A younger, more naive voting public just may be open to it.

When the government does its’ job no one notices as boredom sets in and people need the excitement of change. I can see it happening.

I would think that New York City is getting ready to burn right out from under him. There are lots of indicators that it’s a good time to go.

AOC can probably manage the ashes.

I’m 71 1/2, still working, probably for a few more years. I’m sure Schumer has millions in the bank, and would easily score a no-show Ivy League job. Why hang around?

He can afford to have his older buddies over to play cards while the cleaning lady is cleaning the kitchen in the nude.

That's the chief owner of the mess that's our government. I'm not sorry to say "cleaning up your own mess is your legacy"

If he cuts and runs, he's exactly the coward I thought him to be.

Chuck heard Pritzker has a foolproof card counting system to get rich. He’s taking that up.
