Could be a massive battle between team mates since McLaren clinched the constructor’s championship last race. And a Sprint race Saturday abd a full race Sunday. I hope McLaren has lots of spare parts.

I finally got to the bottom of the story about the record for the most starts in a Ferrari without a podium that I posted about in the eternal F1 thread.

Didier Pironi failed to podium in 18 consecutive starts when he first got hired by Ferrari. Kimi Raikkonen, on the other hand, had had a successful stint at the Scuderia in the Oughties, even taking one WDC. But when he came back for a second dose in the 20-teens, he went 22 consecutive races without scoring a podium.

So the writers ("Staff") at RacingNews365.com apparently picked up on the story from somewhere but left out one critical detail, that Pironi's 'record' only applied to new-hires.

In any case, Hambone likely will supplant Didier this Sunday, becoming Ferrari's worst-producing new hire ever, but he'll have to wait until Qatar to become the worst ever of any stripe.

Hambone also is beavering away, ingratiating himself to the team by pointing out details they're apparently too thick to notice. Like he wants them to stop his tires losing heat when he's stuck in a queue on pit lane waiting to be released during qualies. He apparently believes he's the only one in the queue experiencing this, and the Ferrari engineers should be able to bend the laws of thermodynamics for his benefit.

The USGP is always a good one, at COTA.
Fire ‘em up!

The WDC is still mathematically possible for five drivers:

On a related note, it's mathematically possible for me to win the PowerBall lottery every month for the next three years.

That doesn’t count sprint races, which is a more recent idea. Hamilton has a points-scoring win at the Shanghai sprint.

Very interesting stuff.

Hambone on the threshold of setting an all-time Ferrari record!

When it occurs it will be suitable for a few drinks.

Maybe the list needs to be pinged:

Apple TV has F1 for the next five years:

Five years of Tim Cook controlling F1. This will be interesting and could lead to a collapse.

INDYCAR teams complained about Peacock only and they ditched it.

NASCAR teams are complaining about Amazon.

On Memorial Day, Indy is king again. The only race on television.

For reference:

In 2023, Racer’s Marshall Pruett warned about the expansion of Peacock-only races in NBC’s last year of its INDYCAR deal:

“(T)he last thing traditional sponsor-reliant teams need is a smaller ratings number to sell.”

“(Premium pay) we know is a ratings dead zone.”

Business-to-business (B2B) will be the only way for F1 sponsors to get to teams in the United States, because there is no television unlike other nations.

The whole point of media elitism is shutting out voices.

Cadillac: Loses many outlets to promote cars.
HP: Loses business promotions for Ferrari
Versant and Google: Lose business promotions with McLaren in the United States because Apple will use exclusivity to play blocks.
COTA: More viewers for NASCAR in March than F1 in October (Fox vs Apple).

This also goes back to what Fox’s Mike Joy said was a concern of NASCAR sponsors (especially in the five-round Washington BLEEP premium wall) — too much B2B, no consumer promotions. F1 manufacturers and sponsors will pay dearly. The four engine manufacturers (Mercedes-Benz Group, Ferrari, Honda, Ford) and soon to be five (General Motors in 2029) will pay when there is no Return on Investment. B2B is the only way because viewership collapses. This is what Joy understood about marketing. And Racer numerous times from 2022 to 2024 noted INDYCAR teams complained about Toronto on Peacock only.

In the UK, Channel 4 has rights for the British GP. In Australia, Network 10 (CBS Sports group) has rights for the Australian GP. There will be no local broadcast holder for the United States GP. This puts the United States on a further elitist line than Australia and the UK that will likely be looked into by Congress because of the warnings the FCC gave 50 years ago is coming true.
