How digital IDs erase the American dream
American Thinker ^ | 15 Oct, 2025 | Kevin Finn

The stories of tyrannical government intrusions coming out of China and the U.K. should terrify everyone. It calls to mind Benjamin Franklin’s quote: “Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.” That’s how it starts, with lines like “Two weeks to slow the curve.” Next thing you know, a year has gone by, and people have lost their jobs because they refused to take the “Fauci Ouchie.”

In this context, the push for digital IDs emerges not as a simple technological upgrade, but as a Trojan horse for unprecedented government intrusion. Americans (conservatives, that is) have always championed limited government, individual sovereignty, and the right to privacy as enshrined in the Fourth Amendment. Proponents of centralized digital identity systems proclaim their promises of efficiency and security, yet they prioritize bureaucratic control over liberty. By consolidating our personal data into vast, vulnerable databases, digital IDs enable pervasive surveillance, invite catastrophic breaches, and turn inalienable rights into revocable privileges. Metadata, such as timestamps, locations, and device details, is logged automatically and paints a comprehensive portrait of one’s life without consent.

Each digital verification, such as checks of age or identity, creates a record accessible to governments or corporations and builds a profile that tracks movements, purchases, and associations. It violates the separation between private life and state scrutiny. The government has no right to know where we travel, what we buy, what we own, what we think, or what faith we practice.

Centralized systems exacerbate this. They merge health records, financial data, tax filings, purchases, and even social media activity into a single repository. Authoritarian regimes like China’s are exploiting these tools via social credit systems, where dissent on monitored platforms triggers restrictions on travel or employment.

Of course the leftists in the USA and UK love the idea of total surveillance.

Digital ID’s are a game changer.

It also signals the “end” of everything.

Folks can continue to mock Christian Biblical Prophecy if they want, but the facts just keep adding up that things are coming to pass...

Digital ID’s? There is no going back from that. Next is social credit scores, cashless banking, deplatforming people and controlling speech. Why have a Federal Reserve when we won’t have any dollars, quarters, dimes or nickels to trade for goods.

Absolutely...

I still have my original Soc. Sec. card (recvd in 1947) that clearly states that it is not intended to ever be used as an I.D. card...

I wonder about the number, size and various locations around the nation for AI data centers. I think that the need for recording all digital comunication, digital ID and digital currency its going to be huge and will need to be backed up somewhere. This maybe the real reason for these “AI” data centers! Also if the contract is given to a few private data centers, well then it’s not the government spying on citizens, it’s FaceBook or Google or ?????

Me too. Mine (recvd in 1965) says the same thing: it is not intended to ever be used as an I.D. card...

Exactly. We don't need digital IDs here in the US.

I recently had to renew my Texas drivers license, and they wanted to see everything (passport, birth certificate, etc) because previously driver's licenses were not considered identification.

But now, they are issuing "RealID" drivers licenses.

Why would I need a digital ID, in addition to my passport, my drivers license ID, and my social security card?!?
This is overkill.

I was disappointed to watch our country roll over and give up their 1st amendment rights because they were afraid to catch covid and die.

Most of the freepers caved and got vaccinated. Are you smarter this time? I suspect many of the vaccines were just saline solution. Or we would see more horror stories of horrible cancers, strokes and what-not.

What were you thinking?

During WWII, my brother and I lived with grandparents from 1942 to 1945...

They constantly told us that the “communist democrats” in control of the government would, one day, use the evil SSN card as a tyrannical control method. ..

They were certainly correct about that, as well as their view that we would always end up in wars with democrats in the WH...

My Dad, a WW II vet, was not a fan of FDR and the Democrats and I helped him hand out anti-Communist brochures in the 1950s.

“USA heading in the direction of the communist chinese dictatorship, monitored and enforced by technology.”

Absolute fact. And I don’t know if anyone noticed but Trump is all in to help create this technocracy. He is in bed with the megatech Corporations. He sees just “economy” and not the ulterior globalist goals of enslavement through technology. Right now they are building the infrastructure for digital enslavement using AI to collect and evaluate everything we do.

We will not even need a digital ID. We already have one, a telephone number, and they are already building databases. The only difference is we can change that number. They will fix that very soon. That is what digital ID is all about, just a permanent phone number.

“Rev 13:17?”

Absolutely... The is where true understanding and interpretation of the Bible comes in. It is not meant to be Literal, it is metaphoric and symbolic. Simpletons think there will literally be a physical “Mark”... A “Brand”. No... we have it already and it is digital. Already it is becoming hard to do anything without a phone app. Banks require it, stores require it if you want a bargain, now government even requires you to log into an app to do business with government agencies.

Phones are the Mark. Phones are held in your hand, (the Mark on the Hand), and phones are now moving to facial recognition for security before you can use the Mark in your hand, (The Mark on the Forehead). When they make our phone numbers static and permanent as unique to each individual there will be the Mark of the Beast (Digital ID). And the Beast from the ground? Technology... It is all mined from the Ground. Metaphorically and symbolically it absolutely fits the prophesy and makes sense.

hi

yes the language is quite interesting

Still and all, a person does not have to know or believe in any ancient writings to recognize that we are pretty far along a very slippery path, headed in a downwards direction ... and that the danger is made even more evident by what’s the Communist Chinese dictatorship has been doing to people there

Ludditism? Maybe. But combine super computers, AI, and smart phones (or yes, even the implantable chips) and... this all is going to be both fascinating and... yes, very dangerous

Oh... As a Techie I have already become a Luddite with everything but communications like here. I have removed everything I can from my life. Even down to doing all banking and shopping cash and no cards. No apps, no digital accounts, no store rewards, none of it... And if more got off their butts and did this also we could stop this insanity.
