Odd radio circles (ORCs). You have to wonder if they pick these names just for the acroynyms.
The Orc was a kind of demon creature in Old English tales; that’s probably where Tolkien got it. Maybe the radio astronomers made the name for the ‘circles’ to match up with Orc...it does seem kind of contrived.
I used to be an ORC before my knees hurt so bad. I transferred to the gargoyle department.
