I'm considering the purchase of an RV, using it for two months and then abandoning it. I will of course notify the dealer of it's location. "Come get it, the keys are in the ignition." What happens? I'm not concerned about credit ratings. I'm an old man and everything I want or need is paid for and I have sufficient income to cover my needs.

To all;
To rent is over $300 per DAY!
to purchase is down payment plus
$300 per month.
Who is the thief ??????
I just want to rent an RV and use it on the mainland for two months. That should not cost me $18,000 + dollars.
I live in Hawaii and can’t stick around on the mainland
to wait for a sale of an RV I bought and drove one way from Orlando to Seattle.
I’m not trying to cheat anybody, but I’m also
not pulling my pants down in a Gay bar.
Y’all get my drift?
What would your mom say about it?
I’m a landlord. I’d imagine the law works in a similar way. I don’t mean the specifics; I mean the general way. In some states a landlord, in this case, the RV dealer, is helpless. In others he can make your life a living Hell. You say you aren’t concerned about money. This means you have assets to go after. Depending on the law and the will of whoever holds the paper on our RV, which, BTW, won’t be the dealer, you could lose far more than you’re thinking. A big bank may have detectives, lawyers and other capabilities on staff. They hand over the case to them and go after everything they can find. If you anything else in your name, it may be as good as gone. You’ll end up hiring a lawyer at $500-1,000 per hour.
Your plan demonstrates you have zero understanding of how things work. The renters who get away with this sort of things know every quirk and corner of the law. You, obviously, don’t.
Oh yeah, that's right. If he's a Haole, he's dead. Frankly, given the crappy quality of RVs and the sleaziness of RV dealers, it would probably abandon him before he abandoned it. More reason to rent.
Maybe ask God what He thinks is best to do, since He will know and be having an appointment with you (and each of us) at sometime not real far in the future.
“Just rent one. Don’t be that guy.”
Exactly right. And here is why... Once you sign to owe that full purchase price you will owe it from now on even if they repossess it. They will attach your income or your estate for that full purchase price you signed and agreed to owe anyhow.
You could use it for only one day and give it back and you will still owe that full price you agreed to. Vehicle purchases are NOT like land/property purchases. One of my kids had a vehicle repossessed because times were hard.
They are still having it come out of their paycheck through court order every check for 5 years now since it was repossessed. They still owe the full amount until it is paid off whether they have the car or not.
You don’t rent... You “lease”. Leasing rates are generally not much more a month than a purchase payment would be. There is a reason why Companies and Corporations lease vehicles. In the long run it is cheaper. THEY do all the maintenance, repairs, tires, etc. And if it breaks they swap it out with another one for you.
I don’t know why more folks don’t just lease instead of purchase anyhow. You are going to pay out that much a month anyhow...
My neighbors lease two vehicles.
They both work and have no time for dealing with problems requiring getting the vehicles to and from the dealership for repairs. Leasing solves time problems.
If there is some increase in cost, It can be considered insurance against potential risk requiring time that does not exist.
Talk to travel agencies. Some foreign visitors use an RV to tour the USA for a few months. You might find an agency.
Gen. Blather,
I read and respect your posts
But my question is INTRA state
not Inter state.
Renting a vehicle in Florida
and turning it back in WA
state. I’ll be in Hawaii.
My various incomes are not
from any of those states.
Y’all want to find me in Hawaii?
Cops stop at my home and ask
for directions to find my neighbors.
But thanks for the inputs. From All.
I’ll try to find a more ethical way
to deal with my travel issue.
While we were rving in Alaska, there was a couple that parked next to us along a river. They had purchased a small RV for a couple thousand just to tour Alaska for a couple months. They already had a buyer lined up where their touring was going to stop and they were getting their couple of thousand back. They were from England and they used some rv exchange company. You could check on that.
No one is a thief. No one is stealing from you. You are not entitled.
Just pay cash for one and donate it when you’re done. You can get older class A RVs cheap. What is the goal? Boondock? If so, you’ll need the solar setup and you’ll spend a lot getting that first. If you stay at RV resorts you’ll spend more than you would than just staying at hotels. If you want to go camping get a big SUV and a tent or a small trailer. Most campgrounds limit RVs to 23 feet and the small RVs are damned spendy. My 23 foot sprinter was more than my first house.
I lived in an off grid RV for years. On my property in Idaho. What’s your goal?
Ethics.. Well, I don’t really care in the world of shady RV dealers. It is a rotten business full of crooks. They’ll screw you and sleep just fine. I would imagine you’ll be on the hook for something annd potentially some kind of fraud with the finance company. The dealers still get paid. They will probably install a GPS shutoff at the dealership. But if you had to ask and stated you have the money, just buy a used RV and sell or donate when you’re done.
Its a form of stealing.

Absolutely. It just makes sense. And your vehicle is not in the shop for a week. They come and swap it out for you and you are up and running again right away, and THEY pay for those repairs needed. Your only bill is that monthly payment that is about the same as you would be making on a purchased vehicle anyhow.
A lease is generally on a six month to yearly basis. So if you do not want it or need it anymore just turn it in at the end of the lease and you are unhooked from anymore financial liabilities at all. Not so with a purchased vehicle...
When you purchase you are legally on the hook for that full purchase amount whether you give the vehicle back or not.
Just rob a bank. Fewer people get screwed that way.
Your title answers your own question. You may live longer than you think. Ethics matter at all stages of life.
Why don’t you just buy it honestly and keep it? Whats your point? Are you just bitter about life in general or are you just an asshole?
“Why don’t you just buy it honestly and keep it?”
I live in Hawaii. A mainland RV is usless here.
You guys just don’t get it!
I want a vehicle for a one way trip and I don’t want to pay $300 per day for something that costs $300 per MONTH!
I can’t stick around to do the BS RV dealers pull on you suckers!
How hard is that to comprehend?
