I’ve often wondered if music helps institute a dopamine effect.

Yes it does actually, performing music especially in groups actually has a big dopamine effect.

Yes, when the group locks in together, it’s like going into outer space.
I wonder if it has anything to do with “practicing through pain” as well.

Not only do they feel pain differently, certain (ahem) "Musicians" (I use the term loosely here) can sure cause headache pain...

I’ve been playing professionally over most of the last 50 years. Given my experience with injuries, I think the take here has merit.

If they were standing still they would sound better but the best sound isn’t their desire or their need.

That is someone causing pain with music. Music has nothing to do with the goings-on in that studio ...

I’m a musician (piano and organ). Started when I was three. My pain threshold is very high. Never knew there was a connection.

Maybe that’s why Sabbath could light Bill their drummer on fire and he was right as rain.

I suppose there is something to it. I have been around. Some of them mortar forkers are nuts. Myself included.

Participating in a large, good choir does cause you to be high on life. There’s nothing like it, except maybe congregational singing in church with everyone enthusiastically singing parts and a wonderful song leader. ☺️
