Yes it does actually, performing music especially in groups actually has a big dopamine effect.

Yes, when the group locks in together, it’s like going into outer space.

I wonder if it has anything to do with “practicing through pain” as well.

Participating in a large, good choir does cause you to be high on life. There’s nothing like it, except maybe congregational singing in church with everyone enthusiastically singing parts and a wonderful song leader. ☺️
