I’ve often wondered if music helps institute a dopamine effect.

Not only do they feel pain differently, certain (ahem) "Musicians" (I use the term loosely here) can sure cause headache pain...

I’ve been playing professionally over most of the last 50 years. Given my experience with injuries, I think the take here has merit.

I’m a musician (piano and organ). Started when I was three. My pain threshold is very high. Never knew there was a connection.

Maybe that’s why Sabbath could light Bill their drummer on fire and he was right as rain.

I suppose there is something to it. I have been around. Some of them mortar forkers are nuts. Myself included.

I don’t know if I have a particularly high pain threshold, but anyone listening to me practice sure does.

So the cure to chronic pain: practice an instrument for 10 hours a day over ten years and you’ll be fine. Easy!

I can tell you as a lifelong guitarist and pro level bassist that the pain in the fingers of learning to play is not easily overcome. It's one of the very hardest parts of learning to play. But after a year or so, it gets very tolerable and can even disappear later on. Callouses being built up have a lot to do with it but I never thought it was anything more than that. This is an interesting article to me.
