For thousands of Indians who move to the United States in pursuit of education, career growth, and stability, the American dream often represents more than just financial success — it stands for freedom, opportunity, and personal achievement. But as immigration rules tighten and job markets fluctuate, many find that this dream can unravel overnight. The story of one 32-year-old Indian worker, who spent four years building a life in the US only to face sudden job loss and visa uncertainty, reveals how fragile this dream can be.
The worker, who moved to the US in 2021 on an F1 student visa, shared his experience in a Reddit post titled “Feeling lost about returning to India after my STEM OPT ends.” After completing his studies, he began working under the STEM Optional Practical Training (OPT) program — a temporary employment option for graduates in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
His career path seemed stable until his employer unexpectedly terminated his project, leaving him without a job just months before his visa expiration. He had planned to transition to a Day 1 CPT program to extend his stay, but with limited time and a tightening job market, his chances dwindled. The sudden shift left him feeling as though he had failed to make the most of his opportunity and was being forced back into the life he had once left behind in India.
Responses from other users highlighted how common such experiences have become among foreign professionals in the US. One commenter said that employers often exploit workers on temporary visas, promising future sponsorships but withdrawing support when convenient. Others pointed out that securing new employment within a short timeframe is increasingly difficult, especially given the current slowdown in the white-collar job market and the high salary threshold of over $100,000

This has been used in many headlines and story excerpts over that past several days. I guess that is AI's favorite cliche as these things squirt out of the propaganda hose..
Their goal is clear: permanent access to American jobs, $300 BILLION in annual remittances sent home, and special visas with NO CAPS, only for India.
Indian leaders say to “ignore the noise” about immigration. Their strategy is to use economic talking points to override politics, push for special deals through bilateral trade negotiations, and rely on policy insiders to ram through uncapped migration just for Indian nationals.
All this is happening while Americans are losing their jobs in droves, Big Tech blames “AI,” and India claims they’re here to “save America” from our skill shortage, skills they admit they don't actually have..but "will" have!
I have their words, documents, launch events, and reports. This isn’t speculation, it’s already underway. If we don’t act, America’s workforce and future will be handed over behind closed doors.
This is a turning point for America’s future. No matter where you stand on the visa debate, the scale and boldness of India’s plan will reshape our country if we stay silent.
Don’t let this go unnoticed, share this story, speak out, and lets make sure this DOESN'T HAPPEN!"
remind her Indians are Caucasians = WHITES
A solution that works exactly as Congress intended.
Awesome switcheroo!
Tough. If you’re so smart, stay in your own country and make it better.
“remind her Indians are Caucasians = WHITE”
She and her friends don’t see it that way, and for them perception is reality. Very frustrating.
😭
Happens to Americans all the time.
They’ll get over it and move on like we do.
Nobody OWES them a guaranteed lifetime employment of their dreams.
Good win this weekend g8tr.. I agree on Vibe coding. I own a boutique shop do ERP and CRM work. The whole use case for importing the mumblers is evaporating. Go on LinkedIn...panic has set in with the Currys.
As you know as well as anyone, the answer is Christ.
No, we have enough. These stealers did follow the rules . The rules ARE the problem. You are virtue signaling.
How does it feel?
Foreign indentured servants that live in fear of being sent home. That is not the American way.
The problem is Americans won’t work cheap and aren’t indentured to their employer,
Thanks for posting this.
If we started importing plumbers, electricians, roofers, and mechanics at half the local wage, would the same folks defending cheap white-collar labor still call it “market efficiency”? Or would it suddenly become “unfair competition” and “hurting American workers”?
It’s not that Americans “won’t work.” It’s that they expect to be paid a fair rate for skilled labor, whether that labor is with a wrench or a workflow.
The problem isn’t Americans. It’s companies addicted to cheap labor and short-term savings at the expense of long-term quality, accountability, and community investment.
She was saved when she was about eight, and I went to her baptism soon after. Only God knows her heart. We’re praying this is just a teen phase and she’ll come around ones of these days. The damage that can be done in the meantime, though ... 😢
