‘No Trump, no vote’ — where will MAGA purists go in 2028?
The Hill ^

Like it or not — like him or not — Trump truly is a “once in a century” personality. He has that elusive “it factor” that can’t be faked, imitated or bought. You either have it, or you don’t. Trump has it in spades, and he’s come into the last three elections with tens of millions of guaranteed votes in his back pocket.

In 1988 I voted for Bush '41. It was a statement-I was happy with 8 years of Reagan and wanted it to continue. Expectations were tempered for the same reason Trump can't be replaced. While JD and DeSantis would be more conservative than '41 the 'it' factor could be lacking in both of them-no others to contemplate. The good news is they stand up to their detractors than the Bush clan did. Still the Trump coattails will only carry us so far.

Trump may need to go more pedal-to-the-metal in the next 3 years. The pendulum swings both ways and results will have to be definite. No telling which way the economy swings. The rats are better at taking advantage of a crisis that can come along at any time-even the small ones.

They’ll vote for his handpicked successor, JD Vance.

The Left will eventually seize power again. It may take 20 years but they will be back.

I recommend that Trump shrink the size of the government. And yes, that includes Defense. We should be reducing the size of the Army. We do not really need a large standing army.

Trump is a once in a lifetime , political personality / force of nature.

Someone will be the GOP nominee in 2028, but he or she will not have the personality and demeanor of Trump.

Our best hope is that the Republican nominees for president and vice president will be supportive of the policies of Trump. And will work to continue such policies.

The Trump/MAGA voter has always been around at least since Pat Buchanan days but have been kept down by big money NeoCons.

JD must continue the mission or MAGA will turn to one who will. this country cannot afford to go back to the leftist dogma.

trump must straighten out the voting irregularities before the midterm and depose the deep state before JD Vance’s beginnings.

He needs to go pedal to the metal for the next 18 months. There is still a good chance the dems will take the House in the mid-term. Sad, but true.

It’s nonsense on stilts. Trump garnered some of the smallest margins on record because he repels as many as he attracts. Bush lost the popular vote in 2000 by less than 1%. Trump lost by 5%. Dubya won re-election by over 2%. Trump won by under 2%. And both of them got the smallest GOP margins in a century. The GOP will do fine. Margins will normalize, as people get used to the idea that the left wing ratchet is over, that the GOP will now no longer simply act as a tax collector for the welfare regulatory state. Trump is definitely an effective president, but his vote-getting abilities are only so-so.

JD Vance is a little smoother around the edges. We will lose some who say “Trump or Nobody”, but we will get more buy in for those who prefer Trump essential values minus the extreme trolling. Some women in particular may prefer the Vance persona. It is also hard to call him “Worse than Hitler II”. Vance will benefit from the slings and arrows that Trump took.

The reason we ended up in WWII is because we looked so weak and uninvolved in the world that bad actors took advantage. The US needs to look like a monster at rest. Periodically, the monster has to wake up, kick an ass, and then continue to look dangerous. Since we have no idea what the next challenge will look like we need an overall balanced military that’s capable of any mission in any territory. The Army is a part of that balance. What the balance consists of should be chosen by a combination of threat assessments, politics and budget. Whatever shape the military takes, the threat will take notice and rearrange itself to take advantage of the new shape.

Our best hope is that the Republican nominees for president and vice president will be supportive of the policies of Trump. And will work to continue such policies.

Disrupt and consolidate. FDR disrupted, Truman and Ike consolidated the new ways. Obama disrupted, Biden consolidated. Reagan disrupted, Bush the Elder unraveled. Big difference.

I believe that both Vance and DeSantis would consolidate. It is important that the VP NOT be an Establishment Republican, because the cleanup isn't finished, and they will see Trump's absence as an opportunity. Trump will have graduated to Elder Statesman, and he can make it easy to stomp on a Lamar Alexander type playing MAGA.

JD is not as bombastic or larger-than-life as DJT.

But he has the same “don’t give a f**k” mentality when dealing with the media. He also understands the power of memes and ridicule when dealing with the opposition.

He’s quick on his feet, comes across as authentic and down to earth given his blue collar background, and doesn’t seem to be prone to gaffes.

Nothing against DeSantis, Rubio etc. but I’m riding with JD all the way for 28.
