Winners and losers: Arch Manning and Texas flirting with disaster now, and Penn State is right there with them

Were the playoff hopes of Penn State and Texas dealt a fatal blow on Saturday?

The No. 7 Nittany Lions fell behind by 20 in the first half on the way to a 42-37 upset loss at previously winless UCLA while No. 9 Texas lost 29-21 at Florida as the Gators snapped a three-game losing streak.

Texas and Penn State entered the season as the top two teams in the preseason AP Top 25. Texas was ranked No. 1 before the season for the first time in school history while Penn State opened in the top two for the first time since it was No. 1 start the 1997 season.

Now, both teams may need to win out simply to have a chance at the playoff.

For me the biggest winner is Jerry Neuheisel who is about Blue and Gold as they come. He is the son of UCLA QB and former head coach Ric Neuheisel. Jerry was a backup QB at UCLA who defeated Texas. He was promoted to OC earlier this week and unlocked Nico Iamaleava. UCLA after averaging only 14 points per game put up 42 against the Cowardly Lions. Jerry was carried off the field just like he was when he beat Texas.

Biggest loser is Penn State. Supposedly DC Jim Knowles is one of the best leading a national championship defense last year as DC for THE Ohio State University. His defense with supposedly NFL quality talent gave up 42 points. Has anybody noticed THE Ohio State University's defense is looking better this year under Matt Paticia? Then we have the OC Andy Kotelnicki who is also overrated. Only thing Kotelnicki does is put up big offensive numbers against inferior opponents then lays eggs against neerpeer teams. His offense only put up 7 points in the first half against the Bruins. Then we have James Franklin the equivalent of the school bully. He loves to beat up the skinny nerds but he crumbles when he faces real danger. This time the skinny nerd who learned some marshal arts put the bully down.

Not sure how many freepers remember the Tim Burton 1989 "Batman" movie. I remember all the hype leading up to the theatrical release. I go to the theater and walk out thought that was the biggest separation between hype and result in movie history. That is what I think of with Arch Manning.

1- it’s obvious from last week they’ve taken the ball out of Allar’s hands. They don’t trust him to win games and he was better running the ball rather than passing it. Drew Allar = Christian Hackneberg II. The big mistake was bringing him back and when they brought him back, not signing any big play makers at WR. PSU never should’ve brought Allar back and Allar would’ve been better off transferring. Franklin gets fired somewhere in mid November if PSU cannot go on a run.

2- Arch Manning shows me nothing. Yes- the Oline stinks and the expectations were unreasonably insane but the guy has no pocket presence, shows no ability to make quick decisions and missed open receivers all games. The fact he was sidelined for a play after his helmet came off that final drive, and the back-up came in then hit a 12 yard pass, was the only thing that kept Texas alive on that drive...

3- Maryland suffered a killer loss yesterday

Next coach to be fired? Jay Norvell- Colorado State

Michael Keaton was the wimpiest Batman ever and Arch Manning is not the wimpiest quarterback ever, but he was very overhyped.

Arch Manning is receiving $6.8 million a year from his NIL earnings. Drew Allar is getting $3 million.

Neither of those quarterbacks will be drafted in the NFL first round next year. Allar will be lucky to get taken in the 3rd. He is not NFL material. Way too slow, holds the ball to long, stares down his receivers, immobile, lumbering and lethargic in big games.

It will cost Penn State $56 million to fire Fraud Franklin. The idiots gave him a ten year contract extension in 2021. They are stuck with him for at least another 4 years.

I think an NFL team will take Allar in the first round just on his traits.

Quarterbacks named Manning have a history of not doing so well in Gainesville.

nope- Christian Hackenber II.....Late 2nd the earliest- a team like the Rams or Lions...could fall into the third day of the draft- his mind and confidence are shot..

Arch Manning is the most overhyped QB in history. Name only got him here.

And Belicheat got his a$$ handed to him again. His only saving grace in coaching was Tom Brady. I hope he sends Christmas presents to Tom every year.

When the opposing team’s defense is any good at all, Arch Manning can’t compete. He has flashes of being good, but he’s mostly a flash in the pan. Warby Parkers look good on him though. Maybe he should stick with acting.

Even though I’m sick of Dabo, it was nice to see Belicheat get a beat down again.

I like all 5 of the Mannings and had high hopes for Arch but his O-line ain’t helping. We’ll see.

As for Jerry Neuheisel ... A star is born.

The false polls are how they market games. Every year 4 - 5 teams of each conference are placed in the Top 25. As they win or lose, each moves around in the polls. Of course, with the TV influence which thrives on ratings, expect the officials to start managing the games to insure the proper markets are available on Saturdays and during the CFP!!

Follow the money and Vegas does not lose.

I used to like the Mannings.

Now it’s overkill, and I’m just tired of seeing their faces plastered all over everything. There isn’t a company they won’t make an ad for as long as it brings in the money, including gambling, which I think is a vice, or at least, it used to be a vice.

So no thanks. I don’t worship at the altar of the Manning family.

Hype, hype, and now overhype. They wore me out.

I don’t wish anything bad for them. I’m just ready for some new faces when I watch football.

I completely agree. He’s just an ok QB. Not even a diamond in the rough. His backup looked good on the one play we got to watch him give it a try.

I was hoping the backup would stay in

Arch was redshirted his first year. He’s still a Sophomore and will thus not be eligible for the NFL draft next year. We’re stuck with him for another year. And there is no way Sark will bench him.

To be fair, Arch has barely played at all for almost 3 years. It shows. He’s improving, but not fast enough to save the Horns this year. 😢

Heads will roll at Penn State eventually over the loss to UCLA. I watched most of the game and Penn State was totally unprepared for a team that will finish with 2-4 wins.

I wonder which heads. Maybe Knowles? That was a pathetic defensive performance. His contract is much cheaper to buy out than Franklin’s.

Billy Napier by no means is off the hot seat, he tried to give the game away.
