The U.S. Treasury is considering issuing a $1 coin featuring Donald Trump to commemorate the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence in 2026. Draft designs have been circulating, but none are finalized, and details like metal composition are not yet settled.
Some news outlets have referred to a “Trump silver dollar” in their reporting of proposed designs. But there are also legal and traditional constraints: U.S. law often prohibits the depiction of living persons on circulating currency, which could affect what gets approved.
Okay, I looked it up. According to one numismatics site, the law requires that a president must be dead for at least two years before he can be put on a legal tender coin.
I don’t believe we have ever had a coin or currency with a living person on it before. This is due to us not being a monarchy - the philosophy behind that.
So...how about Ronald Reagan instead?
