H-1B: The Visa That Links Musk, Nadella And Pichai's Rise In US
NDTV World ^ | 9/26/2025 | Anushree Jonko

The H-1B visa has helped skilled professionals from across the world to advance America's technology sector. Three stalwarts who have made an indelible mark in the US after obtaining an H-1B visa are - Elon Musk, Sundar Pichai and Satya Nadella.

For many Indians, it has symbolised the realisation of the "American Dream", however, on September 21, US President Donald Trump imposed a new $100,000 fee on this visa, pushing it into major controversy.

Satya Nadella

Microsoft's chief executive officer had started his career in the 1990s under the H-1B visa program. He has highlighted the program's importance for attracting global talent, which he believes is critical for innovation and economic growth.

Sundar Pichai

Alphabet and Google chief Sundar Pichai came to the US as an international student before transitioning into H-1B visa.

On June 23, 2020, Pichai had expressed his opinion on X over the Trump administration's proclamation at the time of suspending immigrant work visas. He wrote, "Immigration has contributed immensely to America's economic success, making it a global leader in tech, and also Google the company it is today. Disappointed by today's proclamation - we'll continue to stand with immigrants and work to expand opportunity for all."

Know enough to tell you that a zero wage - meaning “no job” - means there ain’t no price low enough to buy whatcha need.

When some Desi goes sailin’ by ya in the Valley in his Model X , hired because he’s a) a Protected Class Minority (according to yer Wondrous FedGov) and b) he works cheep since he’s still makin’ far more then he ever could in CrapLandia where he came from, you’ll understand that babblespeak about minimum wage laws and other gripes ain’t nuthin compared to be invaded and overrun.

There’s no proof of H-1B hurting the market, but plenty of proof that idiotic gov’t wage and price controls are disastrous for the marketplace.

Some visa holders were industrious and successful, it does not mean they all will be.
Even a good thing can be over used and fail because of it.

“There’s no proof of H-1B hurting the market”

The IRS has the W-2 earnings and names of Microsoft employees.

Retail consumers don’t directly hire professional STEM workers. The lower wages paid to h-1b help tech bros become billionaires and enrich stock holders.

Oh Good Ferengi-Speak!

What’s next Mr. Backwoods? The 127 Rules of Acquisition?

What about the market for JOBS, weirdo?

Cruise around the Silicon Slum for a software job...you’ll rapidly find you’re completely frozen out...at ANY price.

Wrong skin color, wrong ethnicity, wrong nationality.

Babble all ya want about prices...you’ll find very quickly that you can’t even get hired as a gardener...unless you crossed the border in the back of a pickup truck a day or two ago.

I’m against the $100,000 fee.

American companies are basically buying a pig in a poke.

Credentials such as a Harvard degree often mean very little.

I prefer an auction system based on premiums to typical salaries by degree and years of experience, with a minimum 20% premium.

I would also have periodic (weekly/biweekly) fees if H-1Bs would make less than $200,000/year and increase for each year of age under age 65.

How bout we just forget about overcomplicated GastArbeiter schemes and the sensitivities of American CEOs so we can focus on jobs that support American families?

Last time I checked, that’s what it’s all supposed to be about.

Well one thing’s for sure Mr. Irregulator, you’ve made it to my “No-Fly Zone” list.

I’ve got you down as “another attack dog, has no discernible argument, doesn’t address your argument, and flies off the handle like an elementary school kid. A total waste of time. FUGEDDABOUDDITT.”

I won’t be answering you idiotic replies if I can help it. I’ve noticed that for whatever reason, folks who make it to my No-Fly Zone list aren’t on FR for long.

Rots a Ruck. Don’t call me, I’ll (not) call you...
