Several Indian students who secured job offers in the United States have seen their offers withdrawn after US President Donald Trump announced the $1,00,000 H-1B visa policy. Under the new rule, US employers who are looking to sponsor H-1B visas should pay a one-time fee of $1,00,000, which many companies now cite as a reason to back out.
Thousands of students, who are currently on F-1 visas, wanted to bag a job in the United States and obtain an H-1B visa. But with the new rules and skyhigh price on the visa, the companies are reluctant to pay the amount, and are rescinding the offers they made to students.
Speaking with Deccan Chronicle, R.P. Sowmya, a Hyderabad-origin student who is set to complete her Masters in Science from a university in Georgia, said “I applied to multiple companies, and was looking to work full-time with the company which sponsored my H-1B. After multiple back and forths, a company accepted and sent an offer letter.”
“But the $1,00,000 fee news got out, and everything came to a halt. For three days, there was no communication from them. Subsequently, they sent an email saying that they are cancelling the offer. When I inquired, they said they cannot pay the heavy fee for my H-1B visa, and said they have no other option but to cancel my offer”, she said.

That’s the way Indians see it.
A lot of IT / software work has been moving to Eastern Europe, particularly Poland.
Why doesn’t India have its own schools and universities? Why must foreigners come here to be educated. IMHO, our schools don’t educate anymore. They brainwash and program students.

And this proves that H1b visas were always a way to import lesser foreign talent to the US, mostly from one country to pay them less than an American would have made.
Hire an American.
Funny I never see articles about how the H1-B visa program has hit American’s hard.
Aside from those who can’t find work or get laid off for foreign replacements, it depresses wages for the entire field.
This program should have been ended or severely restricted years ago.
The horror, the horror.
Hits Indian students hard....but is a boon for American students. I can live with the tradeoff
I dont give an F about what a person is I give a F about what they can do.
Try spending weeks interviewing and months dealing with a vacancy and then tell me more about how I should be more selective in hiring.
Does anyone ever ask businesses what policies they want or need? Nope, no one cares.
I’m not seeing the problem.

“ The company will just employ him at their Indian offices. So india gets to retain its talent.”
Once again, I’m not seeing the problem.

H1B visa program should just end. Full stop. This will save colleges too, because now we just educate everyone else’s students, and not our own.
If you have a vacancy for months, that is a “you” problem.
H1b would have never even been an option before this sorry a$$ program was started in the first place.
