United States President Donald Trump expressed on Thursday his disappointment with Russian President Vladimir Putin, regarding the lack of progress toward resolving the war in Ukraine.
"With all of the heavy bombardment over the last two weeks, they have gained almost no land. I'm not going to ever call anybody a paper tiger but Russia has spent millions and millions of dollars in bombs, missiles, ammunition and lives," Trump told journalists amid a bilateral meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the Oval Office.

If in the period Sept. 16 to 23, 2025, Russia has gained a whole 28 sq. miles this means that along around 1,000 miles of combat front, Russia has gained a plot of land about 5 1/2 miles square. That is really impressive. I wonder how impressed Trump will be? On the other hand I guess we should wonder how impressed Putin will be?
A recent thought I encountered that could really change the whole calculation is the behavior of China. Some think China could give up on the conquest of Taiwan which would be very costly, and instead take back parts of Russia which once were part of China. Certainly China has not been please about a pipeline supposed to provide China with plenty of Russian oil. Apparently they had been discussing with Russia the possibility of building a second pipeline for their use. Instead the performance on the first pipeline has not measured up and China has doubts about a second one. I had not been aware that China had lost much in the way of land to Russia, so that is a new item to think about.
Another point might be the way Putin has been so willing to send various eastern tribal and ethnic groups with Asian bloodlines to die like flies in his monstrous “meat wave” attacks. The more than 1,000,000 Russian casualties suffering and dying in Ukraine have very little Slavic blood in their veins. How does Xi feel about Pitin’s wanton slaughter of Russia’s eastern citizens?
