CORTLANDT — A New York State Police trooper was charged with driving while intoxicated following several collisions in Westchester County on Sunday.
The first crash occurred shortly before 5 p.m. in the vicinity of Roa Hook Road and state Route 9 in the town of Cortlandt, State Police said in a news release. That’s when a 2021 Toyota SUV struck another vehicle stopped at a red light and left the scene. Witnesses reported the SUV continued south on Route 9, traveling the wrong way and striking additional cars before stopping at a residence in Ossining.
According to State Police spokesman Beau Duffy, one of the vehicles the SUV struck followed it to the Ossining home, where responding state troopers found the driver. They identified her as Jennifer Alvarez, a trooper with State Police Troop K, according to Duffy.
The troopers administered a field sobriety test to Alvarez and then arrested her for driving while intoxicated. She was taken to State Police barracks in Cortlandt for processing and given an appearance ticket for the town of Cortland Court on Oct. 8.
Duffy said he didn’t know why Alvarez was not charged with leaving the scene of an accident without reporting it, which is a violation under New York Vehicle and Traffic Law when there are no injuries or fatalities. No injuries were reported as a result of the crashes.

Oh, come on Mr. Duffy. We all know why.
I’m a little surprised the trooper was charged with a DUI, and not just with reckless driving (wink, wink). Maybe body cameras made the difference there.
Well, that’s one way to end your career...............
Unless NY State Police drive 2021 Toyota SUVs, you can be assured she wasn’t driving a state vehicle.
a diversity hire, ain't affirmative action grand.
I didn’t know a 2021 Toyota SUV couldn’t be a police car. They seem to mostly drive SUVs these days and they might still have a 2021. Guess they don’t usually pick Toyotas.
Everyone involved in the murder or its coverup was a cop,a cop's relative, or a Federal agent (the prime suspect was an ATF agent).
She was found not guilty but there's *nothing* to indicate that the true culprits (the murder and the coverup) are gonna be charged with anything.
The thin blue line protects its own...even when a member murders a cop.
We had a Washington State Trooper kill a 21 yr old kid earlier this year after her and her husband had spent a few hours in the bar on a late afternoon. They had separate cars, and she decided to stop for a pizza on her way home. The kid was riding his motorcycle home, and she turned right in front him. The DA finally filed charges against her 6 months later. She refused the field breathalyzer, but she did admit to having a couple glasses of wine. Her blood test showed she was above the .08 BAC.
“didn’t know why Alvarez was not charged with leaving the scene of an accident without reporting it, which is a violation”
A REAL puzzler!
But, I am sure that whatever the possible reason. It’s “too late” to charge her now..
Good way to destroy your career and pension - but as "Alvarez" ticks off two DEI boxes, she well may keep her job after going through alcohol counseling. Would not surprise me.
A White male would have been fired on the spot - and his photo posted in the article.
Well Sing Sing prison is near by.

Watch the videos on this one. How many hours went by before they did the blood test? Love the part where the LEO tells her she didn’t have to sit in the back seat. Would have all been swept under the rug if no body cameras were in use.
DEI hire. There's nothing worse than a law enforcement officer who participates in criminal behavior that they will, and have arrested others for. I'm a female, and wore a uniform for 25 years, and comported myself off the job as was required, because the job was my opportunity to retire with a pension and benefits. Some people don't appreciate what they have. She's probably still being paid, and will be until, and if, she loses her job. No guarantees.
