An adored mom was mowed down and dragged to her death by a serial traffic offender in a horrifying late-night hit-and-run that has left a Florida seaside town reeling.

Kjersten Aileen-Hermance Strang, 38, was riding her e-bike along 49th Street South, in Gulfport, around 10pm on Saturday when Xavier Omar Rigby, 22 slammed into her, hurling her onto the windshield of his Nissan Altima.

Rigby was barreling along the road at a 'high rate of speed' when he slammed into the rear of Strang's bike.

You could say the same for many car drivers - blissfully ignorant of other operators, run stop signs, fail to indicate etc. why don’t they illicit the same abuse?

Why was a white lady On a ebike at 10.00 PM
in that S ST Pete location .
10 pm on a Sat nite is not good time for single woman biking anywhere . She was real close to the Ghetto .
Any one recall the riots in S St Pete. I would not be there at any time.
These white female millennials from out of state think they are untouchable and in Long Boat Key.

Pathological Altruism: the need to help people

The underlying problem is that pathological altruism makes you susceptible to the scammers who prey on your charitability to set up NGOs from which they get paid fortunes of your tax dollars to "help people" with some say 5-10% of the total take maybe, arguably, actually going towards some charitable cause. It's the scammers and their enablers, you know, the Pelosis and Schumers and Soroses that need to be brought to justice.

The justice system failed to protect society and this is the result.

Well, and who ever decided that it was altruistic to give away someone else’s money?

If you want altruism (and aren’t a communist) give away your own damn money.

Everybody who drives has had a bad experience with an obnoxious or oblivious bicycle rider, but you had better hope that you never hit anybody riding a bicycle while you were driving, because your post will be used against you as evidence of intent.

The government only takes from me, I receive nothing.

likewise. I make money; the government takes almost half of it - more than half if you count real estate and sales taxes. I lose money the government say tuff sh!t, but we’ll be here with our hands in your pocket if you come out ahead in the future.

Mr. Mercat has two bikes that he rides up to 100 miles a week. He’s 83. One is an Ebike which he rides on gravel but also other roads. The other is a “road bike” which he rides when it’s more appropriate. He’s been riding bikes pretty much continuously for over 55 years. He really knows how to be safe but we’ve had friends who have had terrible accidents. So far so good.

You could say the same for many car drivers - blissfully ignorant of other operators, run stop signs, fail to indicate etc. why don’t they illicit the same abuse?

They often do ... it's called "Road Rage".

As a rider and a driver I can safely say it is that segment of riders who don't ride with consideration and/or follow traffic laws that make it so hard for the other ~15% of us.

More years and pounds ago than I care to admit, I commuted to work on my road bike. It was a hilly 17 miles each way and I equipped myself with proper lighting to be seen and a mirror to see. One ~4 mile stretch of road was particularly dangerous. It had two narrow lanes with no more that 6" of pavement between the white line and a drop off into a ditch.

Cars commuted on it too and I always did my best to not hold them up. I learned to "hold my line" there like you cannot imagine; I would ride that white line and wave cars past me. Did it for years and the ONLY close call I had was a trailer with a wheel base wider than the pick-up pulling it - a somewhat understandable error - his trailer fender passed me about one foot away. All of the drivers were considerate, careful and respectful. So was I, and I think they knew it; they got used to me being there and we looked out for each other. As it should be, but often isn't.

Too many bicyclists rely on their “right to be there” to protect them. I ride 3-4 times a week and stick to trails and residential streets because I won’t trust my life to the the average driver, much less the bad ones.

I think bad drivers illicit plenty of abuse (generally in the form of complaints at the water cooler). The difference I see is one, there is more of them so we tune them out and two, their actions are not nearly as likely to get them killed and another person jailed/sued when an accident occurs.

Those ebikes a goddamn menace.
= = =

Is it the ebike, or the rider?

Kind of the gun versus the shooter.
