Eagles broadcaster loses his mind on game-winning play vs. Rams: ‘Are you kidding me?’

PHILADELPHIA — Eagles fans everywhere lost their minds when Jordan Davis blocked the Rams’ game-winning field goal and ran it back for a touchdown, securing a wild Week 3 win.
But no one reacted quite like Merrill Reese.
Reese, the Eagles’ legendary play-by-play radio broadcaster on 94.1 WIP, was in pure shock as he called the game’s decisive play next to commentator Mike Quick.
Davis’ block, his second of the day, denied Rams kicker Joshua Karty a game-winning, 44-yard field goal against the Eagles on Sunday in south Philadelphia.
Davis, the 336-pound defensive tackle, then picked the ball up and raced 61 yards the other way for a touchdown.
The play set fireworks off, both literally and figuratively, around Lincoln Financial Field. But those listening at home or in their cars got treated to an electric call from Reese.
Reese: “The ball is spotted. The kick is away. And it’s blocked! It’s blocked! It’s picked up by the Eagles! Running with it is Davis. 30 ... 20 ... 10 ... 5 ... touchdown! Game over! Jordan Davis!”
Quick: “Are you kidding me?”
Reese: “Blocked him again!”
Quick: “Are you kidding me?”
Reese: “Blocked him again! Have you ever seen anything like this?”
Quick: “Do you believe in miracles?”
Reese: “The Rams are standing silent. They can’t believe what just happened. ... What a great, great game. What a great, great comeback. And the final score is 33-26.”

Love Merrill Reese — legendary play-by-play guy for the Eagles. Perhaps matched only by the Flyers Gene Hart. Many Eagles fans will mute the TV announcers (esp. if it’s Collingsworth, Romo or Aiken) and listen to Reese instead. The tricky part is getting the video and sound to match up. The radio is usually ahead of the video feed. While this was good, the best Merrill Reese call ever was the Miracle of The Meadowlands when Herm Edwards scooped up Joe Pisarcik's fumble and scored to win the game and put Dick Vermeil's Eagles in to the playoffs for the first time in 18 years:
"Under 30 seconds left of the game Pisarcik can just fall on the football and there is nothing the Eagles can do, and Pisarcik fumbles the football! It's picked up by Herman Edwards.

The tricky part is getting the video and sound to match up. Many years ago, when I used to follow the Jerry Richardson Panthers, I would listen to the radio feed of the game while watching the video feed. When they started to delay the video feed I found a gadget to hook up to the radio that would delay the radio feed by a variable amount.
It was possible to sync the radio feed to the video feed.
That gadget sold for approximately $180.

Jordan Davis ran a 4.78 second 40 yard dash in the NFL combine prior to being drafted by the Eagles.

There were 2 seconds left I believe. The attempted kick was the last play of the game.

Heck, this is like watching the Detroit Lions’ every game as a kid. You learn to stop investing interest. It’s like watching congressional Republicans snatch defest from the jaws of victory, like every time.
Cannot watch.

And finishing the line that a certain broadcaster couldn’t finish in 2003 on Fox.

I do not believe what has occurred here, ladies and gentlemen. Talk about miracles, folks. I do not believe this one, but it has happened, as the Eagles beat the Giants 19 to 17 before a shocked crowd at the Meadowlands.

Radio with a delaying device built in to the receiver used to be sold, but not presently available. What is available is inline devices, Roku, or software that delays the audio, but it's not a simple matter to do. The radio audio must be coming through an external device to connect the delay device between them. I prefer something simpler.

While I am glad they scored, it was actually dumb. The clock was already at 0:00, he should have just stayed on the ground and the Eagles win by 1. But what if he fumbled, and the Rams returned it for a game-winning touchdown?

Heck, this is like watching the Detroit Lions’ every game as a kid.
I grew up watching the Giants (my dad's team) in the '70s. They were as bad (or worse) than the Giants. I witnessed "The Fumble" when the Giants' Joe Pisarcik botched a handoff to Larry Czonka with the lead and the ball with 20 seconds left, and the Eagles out of time outs. Herman Edwards picked up the ball and ran it into the endzone giving the Eagles the win.

Some folks have been fans for a really lonnnng time — saw this miracle coming!
Luke 17
36 Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
37 And they answered and said unto him, Where, Lord? And he said unto them, Wheresoever the body is, thither will the eagles be gathered together.
