‘Afraid of our talent,’ says Piyush Goyal after US H-1B visa fee hike, urges Indians to return, innovate in India

India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal reacted to the H-1B visa fee being hiked to $100,000 by US President Donald Trump, saying that the world is “a little afraid of Indian talent” and exhorted Indians working abroad to “come to India, innovate here, design here”. Goyal, who will be leading the Indian delegation in the US for the next round of talks for a trade deal amid tensions over tariffs, made remarks apparently reacting to the $100,000 fee on H-1B visas used mostly by high-skilled Indian workers in the US.

The minister also said that “different countries across the world also want to do Free Trade Agreements with India”.

“They want to increase trade with India. They want to improve relations,” he said, in a video clip from a speech that he shared on his X handle.

After a pause and smile, Goyal added, “They are also a little afraid of our talent. We have no objection to that either.”

The commerce minister then urged the Indian talent to “come to India, innovate here, design here”. He said that will make the economy grow even more rapidly and added, “So we are winners, come what may.”

He also spoke about being “on a mission mode” to make it easier for businesses in India, promoting manufacturing, and supporting international trade.

They should have never been sent to the USA in the first place... USA IT had an option to either “train” them as replacements, before the USA peeps were fired... or get fired with no comp..

After effects, was that we USA IT guys had to be rehired to fix the crap that the RED-DOTS had “programmed” ...

America put a man on the moon while India still can’t keep their people from crapping in the streets.

Tell yourself whatever you need to Piyush. But your countrymen need to return to their home country. Let them focus their efforts on making India great. Our people will do the same in our country.

"The $100,000 fee is way too high."

WTF!!?!
It SHOULD be $10,000,000...
You have been a troll here for so long.. but THIS shows how anti-American you really are.
Libertarian? I thought you were.. but, even Libertarians wouldn't go THIS far (I don't think)...

You are 1 sick individual... you should try to get a homestead in Mexico.. or South America.

Japan, in general, employs the principles of your plan at great benefit to the local workforce. I started working there in 1988. By 2002, the local workforce developed skills to the point that I was no longer worth the wage premium. The company paid for a move home for two shipping containers of personal effects and business class tickets for my family and I as part of the exit package.

Rather than being angry at them for being exploited, I was grateful to my host country for giving me an opportunity my home country would not.

Your general idea is sound. I think Trump is high-balling it to get a deal done.

Let them compete, India vs. USA, and let real earnings rise in both countries.

There’s the spirit. Let that message be encouraged to flourish in India!

A tariff on talent. If they’re that good and needed, their employers will pay it. If not, they can innovate (or whatever) at back home.

I see a little problem with this theory. Ever been in San Francisco, Los Angeles?

Sod Off, Swampy.

There should be ZERO H1-Bs.

The only H1-Bs should be for people of the caliber of Niels Bohr, Enrico Fermi, and Albert Einstein.
