DAVENPORT, Iowa — Five people face charges after a "riot" in a Davenport grocery store parking lot that involved at least 14 people and included gunfire and a 110 mph vehicle chase, according to arrest records.

The complaints state Davenport police were dispatched around 1:07 a.m. Monday, Sept. 15, to Hilltop Groceries & Spirits at 1312 Harrison St., for a reported disturbance. Investigators said they later learned the altercation was a planned fight.

During the incident, several people were assaulted, one person was knocked unconscious and two people discharged a firearm, the complaints say. Davenport police said no one suffered gunshot injuries.

Witnesses pointed to a maroon Ford Escape as carrying a woman who fired a gun in the parking lot, according to the complaints. Officers said the driver fled, reaching speeds of more than 110 mph in a 35 mph zone and at one point traveling the wrong way on Locust Street.

25-year-old Danika Howard is accused of firing the gun and leading the chase. She was arrested and is charged with felony rioting and several misdemeanors, including reckless driving, reckless use of a firearm, person ineligible to carry a weapon, eluding at speeds over 25 mph and driving the wrong way.

Also arrested and charged with felony rioting are Diamond Howard, 31, Tyrae Caswell, 24, and Jerry Hayes Jr., 52, the complaints say. Demarco Mosley, 26, faces the same felony rioting charge and an additional misdemeanor count of person ineligible to carry a weapon.

I am,particularly fond of his insightful diatribe on “How NOT To Get F$%#ED Up By The Police”. Absolutely legendary prose.

“...so it’s possible these people were from the Illinois portion of the Quad Cities.”

Never been to the Quad cities - but anecdotally, I’ve heard the worst parts are more in Moline and Rock Island rather than Davenport and Bettendorf.

Is that true?

I'm about 80 miles away, so I am not an expert on the area. But, yes, the general impression is that the Illinois side of the area is "rougher" than the Iowa side.

Iowa has normal American rules for crime and life in general. Illinois has gone to the dark side, and the no cash bail law is making things worse in this state. Normal people here are hoping that the illegal crackdown will get the voting sides back to a reasonable balance, but so far the place is a mess.
