According to a recent Gallup poll, in 2010, socialism had a net approval rating of +7 among Democrats, which is bad enough.
Fifteen years later, the margin has jumped to +37 — an increase in net approval of more than 500%.
As I wrote yesterday when discussing the bizarre Hochul/Mamdani relationship--she endorsed him, but not the reverse--I pointed to the fact that no Democrat with national ambitions can afford to offend the communists, even if it endangers their general election prospects nationwide. And Hochul wants to be president.
Before you drop the inevitable "Democrats just think socialism means more social programs" argument, you would have to explain to me why, if that were so, Democrats didn't say the same thing in 2010.
After all, Democrats were just as excited about expanding government benefits then as now. In other words, that dog don't hunt. In fact, it is so incompetent at hunting that it should avoid Kristi Noem.
Your median Democrat is no longer center-left. There are plenty of center-left Democrats left, providing their margin of victory in elections--but the weight of opinion in the Democratic Party is friendly to socialism, and in fact to communism. For many of them, socialism is just the term they use to describe actual communism, just as the Soviet Union was the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.

Eventually you run out of other people’s money.
Capitalism and “I’ve given up, put me on welfare” don’t go together well.
Fact is, if the current system if failing the younger generation, they will happily jump from the frying pan into the fire. That’s what happened in the Russian Revolution. And the rise of the Nazis, etc.
The other 1/3 will be fleeing the party. If they go this route,they can kiss their power good bye.
Capitalism sucks but it is better than all the other systems.
The standard line is that they’re for “democratic socialism.” The vanguard for this ideology is Bernie Sanders.
Such an apt marrying of names, “Democratic” and “Socialism.” Wonder why.
Try that with “Capitalist” and “Socialism.” Doesn’t work.
Indoctrination and propaganda work particularly well on young people with skulls full of mush.
A more subtle takeaway here could be that there are huge numbers of people beginning to abandon the Democrat party. They may not be moving to the right, but it could manifest as disillusion and abandonment of the entire political process for decades to come.
What does that even mean? Oh, it means a transition to communism.
Capitalism doesn’t suck at all. It simply needs guardrails that ensure fair dealing to avoid the darker impulses of human nature.
It’s also important to remember that the political left is the party of the children - of all ages. Children may complain about mom and dad’s rules, but they like the “security” of not having to pay for rent, water bills, health care or food.
They just ignore the downside of socialism, which is well documented.

A joke that certainly will be lost on the “progressive” crowd:

Commissar: Under socialism, farmers must share their crops.
Farmer: Socialism is bad.
Crony capitalism, oligarchs, and banksters are what suck.
No surprise that they think socialism is good.
Most DemonRATS are foreign illegal alien foreigners who came to America to demand all the free stuff they were promised by the Socialist and Marxist regimes in their own crap holes but the regime couldn’t afford to give them what they wanted. The DemonRAT voters want freebies that they think they are owed to them for infesting America and keeping the DemonRAT Party of Death in power..
