A hate-fueled attacker allegedly pummeled a stranger who simply glanced at her in an unprovoked attack onboard a Manhattan train over the weekend, cops and sources said.

Genesis Gittens — who just turned 20 on Monday — was yelling on a southbound L train at the 1st Avenue and East 14th Street station around 2:10 a.m. Sunday when a 28-year-old man sitting in front of her turned to look, authorities and law enforcement sources said.

Gittens then flew into a rage, repeatedly punching the straphanger in the face as she sneered, “White boy” and “cracker,” according to a criminal complaint.

The repeated blows left the commuter with a bloody nose, although he refused medical attention, police said.

Subway riders in NY have traditionally been called “straphangers” because many of those who can’t find seats use the straps hanging from the ceiling of the subway cars to keep from falling over when subway car starts and stops. Even those seated are often called straphangers.

It isn't always that easy. I was on the Chicago train after a late shift at the Hyatt Regency Hotel sundry shop down town in the mid-80s.

A black man with a lot of head hardware (it was uncommon in that era) asked me if I was looking at him. It would be normal to look at him, but I knew better. The seats in the back faced each other, so while my head was aimed in his general direction, I was looking above his head, tired. I told him I wasn't, and then he asked me what I was looking at.

Nothing came of it, but something could have. People who push mass transit likely don't deal with that kind of crap.
